2. [TMG] TMG-Linux [1]
This is a question that can be answered probably only by BoB Velke. For some time, many of us have wondered when TMG will be available for Linux/Unix. I have moved over as much as possible to Linux, to avoid Microsoft features such as blue screens, viruses, reboots, system crashes etc., to say nothing of expensive updates. The one program which has no equivalent for Linux is TMG. I have hoped that TMG would become the first major gen. program to enter this field and hence capture the market. There are, of
3. Re: OT: GeneaPro was RE: [TMG] TMG-Linux [1]
Thank you Ed for your very informative email. It was, in fact, the sourceforge page on geneapro that I had seen and which led me to raise the TMG-Linux issue again. I am very impressed with the activity on that site.I wish that I had the expertice to help, but I don't. I am merely an amateur genealogist with strong allegiances to TMG and to Linux (both of them very well earned) and an absolute horror of MS (also very well earned). I would love to see TMG become the benchmark gen. system for Linux; but I do
4. Re: [TMG] TMG-Linux [1]
Thank you Gordon for your comments. I have adopted a similar solution to Dick Eastman's, in that I run TMG in Win2K, which is a virtual machine (VMware) in my Linux host. That provides the stability of Linux; but it would be much simpler if we had a Linux version of TMG and did not need to introduce MS software at all. I believe that TMG is the outstanding genealogy program and, with all the thought and work that Bob and his team have invested in it, I would hate to see it superceded because genealogists m

Elizabeth, I find this font resizing equally annoying and I don't see happening what you explain. I have my font set at Tahoma, min and max at 8 pt and still the fontsize changes when I resize windows. Sometimes those with blank names are picked up and sometimes not, and so far I've not figured out what the key is. So, until it's found and fixed, if you are using a focus group that includes persons with blank surnames to drive a List of People report, I'd suggest you check the LoP output to be sure they get picked

8. RE: [TMG] TMG-5 Have I actually ordered it? [0.968542]
My main concern [honestly] is that I have been using this marvellous program now for some 20 months for the grand outlay of $12... I too wonder how WG can stay in business, but pleased that they do. No doubt WG will 'adjust' my Account in due course, and I am perfectly willing that they do so, advising me when this will be applied. For completeness only, I would like the CD and the Manual but have found that the HELP file, the GTMOOTMG book and this List have been all that I have needed over this time to ma

I'm getting an iMac and the only problem is the the lack of a mac version of TMG. I can get a virtual pc program and it will let me run windows programs on the mac, but I'm not sure how well it will work. Does anyone have any experience with this?
11. Re: [TMG] Exclude certain exhibits? [0.968542]
It looks like either Elizabeth's or John Cardinal's suggestions would allow me to exclude specific images via a workaround. I may use a combination of the two, depending on the situation with the image in question. I think, though, that it would be a nice enhancement to TMG to be able to mark exhibits as excluded or sensitive just as we do with text. I am having trouble running a List of Sources report. I am trying to get a list of all the films I have at my local family history center. I run a LOS and filter for Repository number equals 18. I get no sources. When I run a report with Repository city equals Joplin I get a list of all my sources. How do I filter to get the information I want? Thanks, Lance

I am ready to import a data set from TMG v4d to TMG 5.11 and need someone to guide me along in this process. Please note that I am still a computer tech challenged individual even after reading both the manual and GTMOOTMG! Question: Should I use the Simple Import Wizard? Will the Simple Wizard import everything that is currently in my TMG 4d data set? I have no exhibits. Nadine

Donald, Thank you for responding. You make some good distinctions, but it is clear that your concentration is on narrative reports while mine is on creating lists for data checking/analysis and for creating charts, etc. My further comments are embedded below. 18. [TMG] Bringing 4.0d databases into 5.11 HELP! [0.968542]
I have my 4.0d data in 2 databases--mine and my husbands. I'd like to bring them into 5.11 as one database. How do I do this? I have spent HOURS and HOURS trying to do this. I either end up with 2 projects or else they are together in one, but I am unable to merge the duplicate people. I have followed Lee's "Thought on Merging Datasets" on his Tips, but nothing works. When I try the person merge the Merge button is disabled, and I've never been able to merge a person. Can someone please help me

In an ancestor narrative, each ancestor gets their own section. So all specified tags print for each person. Likewise for a group of Individual Narratives. But, in a descendants Journal, if you have spouse even

Lillian If you open the project with two datasets and click on "File > Dataset Manager" there is an option to merge datasets. In order to combine duplicate individuals they must be in the same dataset, not in different datasets in the same project. From the TMG Help file: To merge the contents of two data sets: 1. From the Data Set Manager, click on [Merge]. The Merge Data Sets window will appear. 2. Click on the down arrow next to Data Set A and select the first data set to merge if the pre-selecte
