1. Research Log Performance [1]
Having downloaded V6.01 and installed the update, I'm EXTREMELY pleased with the performance of the RL in the new version - previously, displaying the RL took some 6.5+ secs each and every time the RL was opened. Now, my tasks display virtually instantly and also has the bonus of near-instant display when changed to focus on ALL tasks. I can now make the move to V6.01. In the interim, I have updated (read replaced!) my laptop with a nice new Sony Vaio which is actually slightly faster than my desktop. Now
2. Re: [TMG] Another possible solution for Flag delay problems [1]
Hi Virginia, I typically use the keyboard to change flags. I am doing a lot of editing and changing flags. 99% of the time I do not have delays when changing a flag, but I have had delays on flags changes for about 4 people since upgrading to 6.1, and I was using the keyboard (not mouse) to change the flag when those delays occurred. The odd part (to me) - when I do have a delay and I move to the next person, the next person's flags change without any issue. It's something that has affected less

Is it possible to have v5 and v6 installed on the same computer? Thanks
4. Backup Input read failure [1]
I'm using v6.1. and Microsoft XP Home Edition. Before I backup I have got into the habit of optimise and running VFI. I am backing up to a CD-ROM. It has only just started When I backup I am getting the message "Input file read failure etc..." When I click OK the procedure continues and finally ends up with "Backup of *.sqz is complete" I can't see any pattern, the number of times varies and the file(s) that it stops on also varies. First of all is my backup OK or would it be corrupted or missing some fi
5. RE: [TMG] Peerage Sentence, v6.00 [1]
Dear Teresa, I lost you?! The sentence queen extraordinaire? I look at some of your census sentences, etc. and sit here going "duh, duh ..." trying to figure out how you ever managed to create them and make them work so elegantly. Guess I better go back and look harder at what I was trying to do - I must be trying to make it too convoluted or something. Obviously I have a paradigm I need to think about shifting somewhere else! I like your idea about [R:Next in line]. That makes a lot of sense, because

David, This transcription is in the MEMO field of the tag. Sorry I wasn't clear. Normally I transcribe them myself, but see little need (especially since I don't yet have the original) to do that when it has already been transcribed. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=3303 You aren't the only one. Looks like a new bug in 6.01. Astrid, Hasso's mother is beautiful. You have such pretty women in your family. When I went to the pedigree chart for Hasso, the dates are cut off in the boxes. I can only see the top halves. Wasn't sure if this was intentional or if you just hadn't noticed. Sorry, I'm mixing up my bugs. There is another one that applies only to female sentences for all tags. This bug applies to name tags for both males and females. 14. Add a person screen 6.00 [1]
Following my previous message on the Add a person screen problem and the hint to use the setup in the add a person screen I can report it doesn't help In fact I removed all sections, ie; Name-var, Birth, Baptism, Marriage, death and Burial, closed down TMG, restarted and re-entered. Once again the three ghost lines returned so I can only assume this is a long standing bug. Hopefully, now that we know it is there, it will be corrected in an upgrade. Dave Utrecht Holland
15. Re: Re: [TMG] Peerage Sentence, v6.00 [1]
Dear Teresa, Astrid, etc., Well, there are none so blind as those of us that think we don't have to look for a new path any more, just better ways to go down the old one! I use dummy tags for censuses, wars, military units, historical events ... never even occurred to me to try it for titles! This is why I love this mailing list! 16. Married name Prefix Suffix [1]
Inconsistent behavior when adding married names. When you add a spouse, and when TMG asks you to create a married name for the spouse, it duplicates the PREFIX and SUFFIX also. When you add a parent, ie when you have already added a father and then you add a mother and it asks you whether to create a marriage between these two parents and you say yes and then it asks you to create a married name ... then it does NOT duplicate the prefix and suffix. .. _unless_ you don't add sureties to the marriage in th

20. Vanishing Sentences Led to Great Idea (for me, at least) [1]
Dear Listers, If someone has already made this suggestion, I apologise for missing it. If no one has, then I hope this is useful to someone besides me. I was hit by the "Vanishing Sentences Syndrome" a couple of times, before the postings hit the list about making changes only through the Master Tag Type List. After getting through some irritation at losing a couple of sentences and then finding out about this "solution", I decided that I didn't want to make a goof and lose another sentence in the future.
21. RE: [TMG] Question on FGS [1]
Pam, There's probably another way, but my first thought would be: Run a filter on your Project Explorer (PE) for the people with the required outstanding tasks. I would then rt click and pop all those people into a focus group. Then you can run your Family Group Sheets using the focus group as the filter. Admittedly this wont get you your tasks in the same report, but at least you'll have both sets of information, particularly if you print your list of tasks in person name order. 22. Re: [TMG] Searching in the Memo Field [1]
No confusion here. I know _exactly_ what you are going through. I'm doing the same cleanup from PAF on 19,000. I'm 62% complete. I'm looking at each one and taking the sources out of notes and citing them properly. Consider building a CLEAN flag. I set the entire group to N (red). As I look at each one and fix it, I change the CLEAN flag to Y (blue). Then I can run a List of People for CLEAN and see how many I've done. I keep a running total in an Excel spreadsheet. I'm managing about 2000 per y

Make sure TMG is not running. Go to C: > Program Files > The Master Genealogist > Projects and delete the *.cdx files of the project that won't open. To find them easily View > Details; View > Arrange icons by Type. If TMG went into Repair Mode, you may not have all 28 (TMG 5) or 29 (TMG 6) cdx files. If your project opens: Run File > Maintenance > Optimize Run File > Maintenance > Validate File Integrity (until there are no errors) If your project still does not open: Restore from your most recent backu
24. RE: [TMG] linking several people to a task [1]
Yup, my cemeteries are repositories and that works. Can only have one person per task, however, you can link an event to a task, so you could create a non printing tag that has everyone in the cemetery attached and put the task on that. 25. RE: [TMG] TMG 6.01: FGS- 1st Wife's Name Not Printing [1]
Lee, It (isolate shared events) would help even more if the line that used to divide the "shared events" from the subject's parents was restored in the print version of the FGS. It clearly shows when output to screen, but has been missing in Word since v4, at least for me. I've raised this several times, but I do have to agree that it isn't a crucial thing, but annoying nonetheless.
