2. RE: [TMG] E-mail messages as sources [1]
Since e-mail folders can become corrupted, I print all pertinent e-mail to PDF (I use PDF995 to do this). I also name them Email20060614. I also have all my ICQ conversations printed to PDF. I name these ICQ20060614. 3. RE: [TMG] Totally OT - age of mothers and lines on a descendant chart [1]
I'd classify it as highly unlikely, but not impossible. Perhaps she was an unusually virile or lucky woman (or unlucky, depending on your point of view). Perhaps there is an intervening generation. Perhaps the *child*'s year of birth is a typo. As someone else has already remarked, though, being 50 wouldn't have necessarily made her decrepit, even in the 1700s. Most of my ancestors seem to have enjoyed at least a healthy 65-75 years, many lived into their 80s, several broke 90, and at least a handful made 1
4. RE: [TMG] splitter sets goal [1]
Karen, I use that for when I have copies of the census, either on CD or photocopies. I started using the film as the repository when I realized how handy it was to use the films for deeds and wills to set up tasks lists. I realize few people agree with my methodology, but it works so well for me, that I started doing it for census work too. Either way works, you just need to be consistent. One thing I like about putting the film information into the repository is I only have to enter the data one time.
5. List of sources cited for a group of people [1]
Hi all, I'd like to write a report on the progress made researching a particular surname line. Part of that report should include a list of the sources examined so far for anyone with that surname. I can't quite see how to get this out of TMG. It's easy to get a list of the sources that have been cited for a particular individual, but when I looked into setting up a filter to list all sources cited for a group of individuals, I didn't see the right conditions listed (for example, ability to

I have never understood how I should be sourcing census records so I just attach the jpg and add witnesses to the database I converted from PAF 2.2. Someday perhaps I'll understand how to make a source for census. 8. RE: [TMG] Place Styles - New York Towns [1]
First, I would not put the church in the addressee field, as there are times when you want to be able to specify an addressee. I can see three ways of doing this. 1) Use the Detail1 & Detail2 fields seperated with || 2) Make the Detail field: Church name, Villiage name and put the "Town of" in the City field 3) Make the Detail field: Church name, and the City Field: Village name, Town name I also might add a (Town of) suffex to this places. 9. RE: [TMG] ID Numbers [1]
Not as far as I know. But...if you don't want them to display, you can disable that feature in Preferences > Program Options >Project Explorer > Display ID Numbers. In most reports the ID number can be suppressed by going to Report Options > Names > Identifiers (set to none). Even so, there are four Tags that are noted by TMG as LDS Tags that do not follow that statement. Joan Thomas wrote: >*
14. Re: [TMG] DNA Project [1]
I attended a seminar on DNA and Genealogy a few months ago, and some of my notes include the following: 20% of the fathers of record are *not* the biological father. 25 of 25 markers *and* surnames match equal a relationship. 23 of 25 markers *and* surnames match is a probable relationship. 21 of 25 markers *and* surnames match is probably *not* a relationship. 15. RE: [TMG] Creating New Tags [1]
No hard and fast number, Joanne. Just if it's something that is a truly *unique* event, unlikely to be repeated (or repeated often) I don't bother with a new tag -- an Anecdote tag with a sentence of [M] does just fine. I wouldn't consider an anniversary -- even a 50th anniversary -- a unique occurrence, as plenty of my family could be expected to enjoy the priviledge. For that, I'd create a tag. 16. RE: [TMG] source output form [1]
You can say that again. Yesterday I was scanning in documents, and found a birth certificate for a cousin, who was born (according to her birth certificate) on MAY 20, 1910. Well, she is also enumerated as a three month old with her family on the 1910 census on MAY 6, 1910. Now I doubt that the birth certificate is correct, since she was obviously alive 2 weeks earlier when the census taker came by. My guess is she was a home birth and the doctor put in the date that he came by to fill out the birth cer

That's what I figured. I like the look of the .pdf file better, but if I want the footnotes on the same page, I guess it's Open Office. Fortunately, there is a built-in PDF generator.
