1. RE: [TMG] Creating a Report [1]
Hi, I'll second Terry's recommendation of using both Rootsweb and a personal web site with a different provider. The main reason for this for me is that search engines find the personal site, but not Rootsweb I also second the way Terry's controls who gets uploaded. I don't like such sites assuming anything from my data, so only upload those I've marked. I love GenCircles matching ability and have picked up several new relatives that way Mind you, the search engine hits can be a bit of a problem as I w
2. RE: [TMG] PE Filter and Deleting Tags [1]
I agree it is a pain, but you can work around that Diana. Once you've filtered down to the list of people you want to check, add them all to an empty focus group Then unfilter the Project Explorer and unlink it. Then work thru the focus group one by one. Another advantage of doing it this way is that you can delete the names you've checked already from the focus group, and even save the group and restart it later. 4. RE: [TMG] Data loss on CDRW disks [1]
That "warning" was apparently while I was "vacationing" to my other projects. What is the issue? I use CDR's, not CDRW's, and have found no problems. Is the issue *only* with CDRW? 6. [TMG] I must be finally getting organized. [1]
Took a fun day at the library and found the transcriptions of 5 wills! I must finally be getting a little more organized now that all the cleanup is finally finished. 7. [TMG] For Terry [1]
Terry, I apologize as I believe I referred to you as she or her and I see that you're a he or him! I started out thinking you and Teresa were the same person for the first day I was on the list! Then realized you were two different people but didn't think about gender! :>) Have been reading your tips while sitting out in the sun (our first nice day and quite warm -- high 70s) and boy are these articles a help -- your viewing it as a "binder" with sticky notes, and so forth. Got much more to read but it's b

9. RE: [TMG] Help with Filter - Death Group - Date - Contains '?' [1]
Thanks, Peter! THAT was what I was missing! I thought the would work like any other [?] search, but it doesn't! I added a question mark to the end of a death date and then ran the contains '?' filter and it found the new record! THANKS Peter, Jill and Myrnice for your help on this! I used your last filter suggestion Myrnice, and it did not return anything. But the following filter worked well enough (it contained all the people I wanted, plus anyone else who died in 1880 (expected) and

11. Re: [TMG] Want to see my Spring Time TMG? [1]
If you want more layout room, you can use icons on your custom toolbar. I have 42 items, similar to Teresa's, but on a single row at the top. I have included on my custom toolbar some of the items from standard toolbars, so I don'd need any more toolbars open. You can specify your own tooltips for the icons, so - for the individual census years - I have simply 1850, 1860, etc. The left half of the toolbar is items like my four projects - the colored boxes - and the Master Source List (the icon fo
12. RE: [TMG] adding a timeline [1]
Chuck, Haven't seen an answer to this one yet. What you need to do is create a LOP report and have the secondary output set to LOCK TIMELINES. If you need help with a filter let us know. 13. [TMG] Projects and Data Sets [1]
I am new to using TMG and I'm not sure I understand this concept of data sets and projects and their relationship. I had a look at the archives and from what I read, it appears that the data can be split into subsets, but it is still treated as if it were a single large data set. Is this correct? I split my data into subsets many years ago when the program I was using (Roots 3) limited the size of the data set to how much memory was available. The downside of this was that my grandparents were in tw
14. RE: [TMG] Pittsburgh [1]
Jo Ellen, I'm totally open to place suggestions. The Carnegie library I had in mind was the Oakland branch, purely because it is across the street from where I spend most of my days. But I have a car. It's probably silly of me to think about this right now, as I have huge exams in a month, but one always needs distraction from the major things in life. Which is why I am writing e-mail now rather than either studying or cleaning my apartment in anticipation of a houseguest arriving Thursday morning.
15. [TMG] Blood Relationship [1]
When I use Preferences>Current Project Options>Other and activate the Automatic "Relation" tag it indicates that I have no blood relationship to some of my ancestor's children and do have blood relationship to others. For instance the Family View says I have no blood relationship with one of my first ancestor's son Louis, yet if I run a Relationship Chart report it says I am his 6th great-grandnephew. Is a great-grandnephew a blood relative, if so then why does the Family View indicate I'm not related? Or i
16. RE: [TMG] Surname in CAPITAL letters [1]
John, Sandra, et al The boxes in "preferences" are both UNchecked. Some surnames in the project are in initial caps, and some are all caps. What I am trying to do is to get them all in initial caps. When I open file names, some have been originally entered in all caps, and some in initial caps, but I have had no luck in changing them with the TMG 5 Utility. When I go into TMG 5, I can correct the ones with all caps, making them initial caps, and then that particular entry is fine. I just was looking for a

20. [TMG] TMG Utility 5.5 Build 01 Make P1 Male [1]
I have been changing some two-principal events to get the male as principal 1 and the female as principal 2 while I was making some other changes. As I will only find some two-principal events using my particular filter I decided to use the TMG Utility to save time and to collect them all. I had a look using the Log Only option to see what would happen and found that I kept getting the sentence (The previous swap was skipped because of the sentence definition) and out of the 1,766 events only 126 would be

22. RE: [TMG] F3 retrieve - how does it work? [1]
John There is a known problem with the F3 repeat feature at this time. Sometimes duplicate entries are allowed on the repeat list (which is a no no). This has been reported and hopefully will be resolved in the next release. In the meantime you can use "Ctrl F3" to select the entry you wish or delete all of the files in your program folder which start with the word "REPEAT" and start the list over again. It will soon become corrupted again and you will have to repeat this process. Myrnice John O'Neall wr

24. Re: [TMG] ID#s on Import and Fixing Relationships [1]
Ya know, at this point I don't really know what the Ahnentafel report is (or how it would differ from other reports) or that it produced it's own numbering (I haven't even begun to check out all the reports there are and why you would use this one or that one) -- is this something that's just automatic, "setting" the numbers for Ahnentfel reports -- and then, if I'm reading your email correctly, you say the ID numbers in TMG will be the same? I don't think I'm understanding how this is done. And what
25. RE: [TMG] Drawing from two separate projects [1]
That's right. I have a lot of instances where the person gave me their entire family tree (as they knew it) simply because they had divorced and wanted it preserved in case their children ever wanted to find out the information. Since everyone knows I am the genealogy nut, the assumption is that someone would send the children to me. It sits there and doesn't bother a soul. (And occationally gets added to when I am in a researching mood. ) Teresa Ghee Elliott Any information I give that you can't
