I would like to thank all who participated in this discussion, I really learned a lot from it. And just at the right time, too! I am printing out a family book and needed the information you all gave. Thanks Joe, I do have alot of witnesses that are related to the subject, however there are some I do know for certain are not. I have been adding them to a memo while I figured out if it were possible to do otherwise. Now you have comfirmed that it is not, other than to have them on a list with the ancestors, I will have to make a decision as to how to list them. dear Mr. Ken Nelson, thank you so much for your very courteous and kind response. I am glad to learn that times roman was manufactured by monotype and is used for readability. I am nearing the point in my own genealogy work, where I want to print one chapter of say 200 pages. As of now i have it written on my computer in ARIAL 10 points on A4 paper with margins Left and right of 1.6 and 0.8 cm and margins 1.3 cm top and bottom of headers and footers. To my untrained eyes that font appeared easiest to r

5. [TMG-L:] TMG-L: Beginner's Problems - demo [0.97028]
As a beginner, myself, with TMG I have had some frustrating moments too. I'm very glad to have the program and look forward to the day I will be able to zip along with it. I looked for the demo as an on-line tutorial but it finally dawned on me that the tutorial was in the book. The sample database was open and I, the new user, was to read the book and perform the exercises. That was my first stumbling block but I eventually got past it. I do have a question for the pros out there on sources. I'l

I took advantage of the suggestion made here about lengthening the name field in the picklist.....I have German ancestors who also heap name upon name!!! But lengthening the name field has pushed the other fields farther to the right. I wanted to be able to see the ID# of the father and mother of each person in the list at a glance without having to scroll to the right of the page. I have a "Reference" field -- I use it only rarely, however -- that only needs to be 5 char. max, but is instead about 20 c

10. [TMG-L:] TMG-L: 3.7 to 3.5 conversion [0.97028]
I have been using TMG version 3.7. My computer crashed recently and I had to reinstall the program. When it came to installing the 3.7 update to the 3.5 version I had originally purchased, I went to the TMG website and found that I could no longer do it. Fortunately, I had an up-to-date backup of my data. But when I restored my 3.7 databases using version 3.5 I found a HUGE number of errors stating either "Unknown GEDCOM tag:_TAG" or "Unknown GEDCOM info: Dead." What are all these errors and how can I

Janet, I offer this as a UFT user TMG soon to be newbie, use the name of the place that was proper at the time the event (TAG) occurred. Yes, you may have several names for the same place. Many of my wife's relatives came to this country from Pommern and from Alsace. Pommerania no longer exists. There was no unified Germany before the 1870's so none of these people were Germans in today's sense. They were from Bayern, Pfalz, Prussia, Pommern, etc. I even have in my database a San Antonio, Bexar Count

13. [TMG-L:] Re: TMG-L: TMG Beginners luck [0.97028]
Hi David, Converting from FTM to TMG is neither simple or impossible. A lot depends on the FTM file. I word of warning, DO NOT upgrade your files to FTM V7.5 if you are thinking of going to a real genealogy program like TMG. If you think your V5 file was a mess going to V7.5, wait until you see what really happened to sources. In going from the old style sources to the new style sources, FTM does not convert the old. It appears they leave the old style and add the new style. This does not show in FTM
14. [TMG-L:] Re: TMG-L: RE: the book EYE FOR TYPE is about linopress fonts, not computer fonts. [0.97028]
Dear Prof. Harry -- I second the suggestion that you reconsider. The principles of the use of type are the same, whether it is linotype, computer type, or wooden movable type. Making your family history attractive and easy to read is as important as making it accurate. Just for the record, UFT also has a Reverse Register and outputs in RTF (not RFT). Actually I thought TMG output to the WordProcessors was in native language which is much preferred rather than RTF. 23. [TMG-L:] RE: TMG-L: Entering birth dates [0.97028]
Ken, As an alternative to Lee's suggestion, you can create a temporary Custom Pick List by using the List of People report. Focus on Father*ID# Equals [your father's ID#] and be sure to check the 'Create Custom Pick List' option on the Secondary Output tab. I would also check the 'Suppress for secondary output' option on the General tab then run the report. The resulting Pick List contains just those children whose father's ID# matches the value you entered. You can now easily navigate from child to ch
