1. TMG 5.13 Fan chart crashes [1]
We have two independent, licensed installations of TMG 5.13. Each of them crashes when trying to present a fan chart on screen. It appears a program called VCF is the problem. It stops with the usual Windows message about an illegal operation in VCF.exe with an invalid page fault. Darrell Call
2. RE: [TMG] Re: 5.13 Fan chart crashes [1]
Finally I have more information about this. I downloaded another copy of the 5.12 to 5.13 upgrade file and ran md5 calculations on the one I used for upgrading and this new download. They came out with the same number so they are identical files. Then I remembered I had installed the 5.13 upgrade on my laptop so I fired it up and discovered fan charts run fine there. For upgrades I always download the upgrade file from the http://www.whollygenes.com/upgrade.htm site, store it with all the other upgrade
3. burried? how about buried? [1]
In TMG 5.12 on the tag type list I can choose one that is called "burried" and if I use it I get a tag called "burried." My English language dictionary has no definition for burry or burried but Dictionary.com says burry is "Having burs; prickly" From that one imagines a burried person would have an unpleasant appearance or might describe the personality of some relatives past and present. I did find "buried" in my dictionary and in Dictionary.com. Those definitions would apply to what we do with most o
4. RE: [TMG] Backup can not be trusted anymore [1]
All this is strange indeed. It supports my view the wizard is too fancy, especially the defaults. However, in the course of trying to fix my fan chart problem I did backups and restores across my home network using 5.13 with NO problems. I'm glad I didn't know of this potential problem at that time. Our network is not a usual PC setup. It is mostly Linux with Windows riding on top and using Samba at the data store. BTW, one of the fan chart problems went away on its own. I have no idea why that happ
5. Re: 5.13 Fan chart crashes [1]
The exact error message is: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut dow. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor." When I choose to see details I see "VCF caused an invalid page fault in module VCF.exe at 016f:00413bb5 ..." followed by a bunch register contents. Do you want all that too? This time when I ran it to get these exact words tmg &/or vcf locked up the computer and the only recourse was to power cycle the machine. It would not respond to ctr-alt-del. Pre
6. Re: [TMG] burried? how about buried? [1]
'Tis a strange thing. That "burried" tag has been in my TMG for as long as I can remember, which is several years. Only today did I notice the unusual spelling of it. I have no idea how the tag arrived here but now when I try to delete it from the master tag type list it says I can't because there are 18 instances of its use in my data set. How do I find them so they can be changed to burial tag? Darrell Darrell Call wrote: > In TMG 5.12 on the tag type list I can choose one that is called > "burried
7. Re: [TMG] Re: 5.13 Fan chart crashes [1]
Darrell, All that I can suggest is to do a reinstall and update to 5.13. Jim Well, I was hoping to learn whether you or anyone else sees this behavior. It seems peculiar to me we have the problem on two separate computers that don't know about each other and have data sets that have never interacted. This feature was working fine in 5.12 Maybe we received a bad 5.13 download but so far as I know there is no way to discover that. In the Linux world I do most of
8. Witnesses not recorded by TMG 5.12 [1]
I have been away and just returned to the list. I have also just successfully added some witnesses in v5.11 and then upgraded to v5.12. To my surprise and dismay, when I try to add witnesses in V5.12, with preferences set on "use tabbed version of tag entry" they do not get displayed after each is added, whether I am using witnesses or roles. If I don't "use tabbed version", they are displayed, but in both cases, they never turn up in the tab list of the witness and they do not appear when the tab window is
9. RE: [TMG] RE: The return of the hash [1]
This subject is not one I know much about but I have observed it is not uncommon in a software installation for the install program to run an integrity check on the package before installation starts. On CDs sometimes it is optional if the CD has been checked previously and found to be good. My point in bringing up this subject is to suggest Bob and his crew of elves add a file integrity checking feature to the downloads. I'm sure there are numerous ways to do it and a few ways that are essentially trans
10. RE: [TMG] PS to back=up problem [1]
My wish for it is that the default wizard settings did nothing more than the backup feature did before the wizard so if I clicked on it the action would be exactly as it was before the wizard. For users who want more they could pick and choose on various wizard windows. As it is the default does things I don't care to have done for me so I have to carefully work with it to be sure it isn't messing me up. My backups go across a network to the system data repository for a little extra security and because
11. Generation numbers vs. source reference superscripts [1]
TMG 5.13 -- Descendant Indented Chart options present the possibility of printing generation numbers in regular or italics. The generation numbers are printed as superscripts after the given name and before the surname. I don't see any option to change that. Unfortunately source references are also superscripts and look a lot like generation numbers or, actually, generation numbers look too much like source references to be useful. I noticed some other genealogy programs print the generation number bef

Hi David, and welcome to TMG and this list. You'll find TMG an excellent program and this list extremely helpful. If you have questions ... shoot :-) If you're interested you also can find info about User Groups in Adelaide here: http://www.whollygenes.com/faq2/fom-serve/cache/83.html and an Australia specific mailing list here: http://www.british-genealogy.com/mailman/listinfo/use-tmg-australia Cheers, Astrid in Melbourne, AU David wrote: > Hi my name is David Cavangh I live in Adelaide South Australi

Hi my name is David Cavangh I live in Adelaide South Australia and I am new to this list and new to TMG, previously I use generations to record all my family history Data but needed something that I could manage my records with, to make them easier to find. I have been researching for 16yrs starting without an interest in documenting where I got my informnation from to now where I have to prove where everything comes from, at this point my specific interests are with my Cavanagh line in Galway, and N

20. VCF, TMG 5.13 and STALL [0.871694]
Hello all, I am using TMG 5.13 and VCF 3.0. I am unable to create any type of chart using my primary project. The program stalls after a small message box displays "Collecting Tag Types". My CPU usage goes to 98% for the tmg.exe. I am able to create charts using the Sample project. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there a workaround? Thank you! --------------------------------------------------------- Cheryl Strange-Laetsch, PO Box 484, Grass Lake, MI 49240 http://www.mydead.com

22. Backup can not be trusted anymore [0.871694]
Since the update to 5.13 I have been having trouble to make a backup. I do not store my data on the same disk as the program. Every time I try to do a normal backup the program is looking for files that are not there. When it does try to make a backup I get endless displays of error messages and the program freezes. Prior to this last update I could make backups with no problems what so ever. What went wrong with this update. DonaldBWingfield

I have found that the cursor also disappears during the entering of a new person. Here are step by step repeatable action: 1. Open the add person window 2. click the person you want to add (ex. Brother or sister) 3. arrow key down and enter names , dates etc. 4.. use the cursor to click on the source button - move cursor into a data screen 5. as soon as you start to enter the source button the mouse disappears. 6. hit enter twice to close the open windows. 6.
