2. RE: Exhibits [1]
One major factor is the size of your backup file. I use external exhibits and back them up seperately from the data. If you don't have many you have the option to back up along with the data. I only have to backup exhibits when I change or add an exhibit. If you use internal exhibits every backup includes the exhibits and can get very large quickly. Since I am saving the jpg file for many things like census images, draft cards, death certificates which are attached as a source exhibit I can no longer even

4. RE: [TMG] Tax list sentences [1]
Lee makes good points that us using tax lists have come across. One thing I do is analyze the data a little so the sentences are more like paragraphs in themselves: He was shown on the tax list in 1811 at Montgomery County, Kentucky, with five Horses. He did not pay taxes on any land in 1811. He was shown on the tax list in 1812 with one horse. He apparently sold four horses, or they died. The bill of sale for two horse was made on April 1812, and his daughter married in January 1812. Perhaps one of

You're welcome. Sure, go ahead - it's public information. In fact, it's mentioned on pg 82 of GTMOOTMG. If you put anything between the opening conditional bracket and the Place or Date variable, the preposition is omitted. A space there will cause no preposition, regardless of the report setting. Or, if you

9. RE: [TMG] Methods - U.S. Census Dates (Actual vs. Official) [1]
Terry, Good questions. CAUTION: Information Overload Imminent! > Why do you create a Census Tag? Uhm, because it's evidence? > What does the sentence in the Tag say? My tag presents what the census Says so that it can be compared to what is Known about the family from other sources. Technically, I don't use a sentence in the colloquial sense. My census tag is a pseudo-reproduction of the census itself, showing one person per line and the data that was recorded about each of them. Actual example
10. RE: [TMG] General - Primary Events [1]
Actually there is IF you want to use those Deed events on a VCF chart. I finally just gave up on using Census tags on my VCF chart because the work was too great. But it would have been a nice chart for a fellow researcher. I may have missed it in the update notes but . . . I generated a FGS today and it printed without a problem. Previously I had to change the resolution on my printer which I had forgotten to do. So thanks to Bob and the programers for whatever corrected this. Patt Ricketts

13. Indistinct data when downloading GEDCOM file [1]
I have a feeling this has been discussed before, but cannot track the line. I have downloaded a GEDCOM file from a relative, with data apparently intact as I can run a narrative report with lots of narrative, but the format in which it appears is full of symbols like <, ><, > in the person view, and there are no names in the project explorer or picklist. Am I able to unravel the information from the file, or will I have to go back to the sender for an alternative file. When I do run a narrative repo
14. Re: [TMG] Can't run TMG except as admin [1]
Another thought just occurred to me as well... How did you install TMG? Was it from a back up or a clean install? What user name did you use? You may need to uninstall the program and reinstall it using the user name you use most frequently when using TMG... Any user with similar or higher permissions would/should have access to the program. Ron Hamlin

16. RE: [TMG] To Clooz or not to Clooz [1]
Ben, I use ONE source per Document, so I can pretty much do in TMG what Clooz allows me to do, just differently. I downloaded the demo of 2.0, but haven't played with it any. I am not a big fan of double entry, so I think I would probably be happy with just staying with TMG. How would you perceive that Clooz is better with documents than TMG. Perhaps if you know what you want TMG to do, we can tell you a way to get it done. Teresa Ghee Elliott-IBSSG TMG sentences http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.co

Many thanks Lee, that is certainly a very clear and useful explanation. As you have read, up to now I had paid that much attention to narratives, but I agree, the Sentence structure explains a lot. I'm still a bit confused about exhibits. I put exhibits into my progect by clicking on the camera icon, then right clicking in the appropriate area and adding the exhibit. Why do some exhibits end up in the TMG \PICS\ folder? Where do they come from and how do they differ from the other exhibits? Where are the thumbnails stored? Right in the project? 19. RE: [TMG] Machine Writing [1]
We had a mini family reunion this weekend and it prompted me to do a SS CD for my father-in-law. I have researched his lines extensively and they are (or so I thought) fairly clean. I started cleaning them up about noon today. I am doing his ancestors and their descendants to two generations, about 640 people. I hope to have it cleaned up in time for my nephews wedding in July. But there's some good stuff there and I am proud of what is already done. Now if I wasn't such a perfectionist.

22. v.6.09-Problem w/Copy-Paste from Word2003 [1]
I have a lengthy article from TAG that I typed into Word 2003 because of the footnotes and formatting. Yesterday I tried to cut&paste into the Memo in TMG 6.09. This was a section about 3 printed pages long and it took over 30 minutes to get part it into TMG. I have previously done this with longer articles and had no problem. First the program went into a "not responding" status and had to be restarted. Then I broke the selection down into 2 parts, figuring I would save the memo and tag after each past.
