1. [TMG] Roles Use [1]
I just downloaded the 4.0c upgrade. It has the provision for roles which I think is something that UFT had (?). Anyway, my question is how are persons using the roles? To further clarify, why would I wish to use roles in place of or in addition to witnesses? I would appreciate learning from former UFT users who used roles and TMG users who did not have them until recently and are now using them. Thanks for your responses Wayne Dreier User of The Master Genealogist Northwest Ohio Researcher _____________
2. [TMG] Sentence Construction for Roles [1]
I have been expermenting with using roles. Here is what I've done and the results I have gotten: I added a new tag called Cen-Son and added a role called 1910 Census Son and constructed the following sentence: [P1] is listed as a son of the head of household, [FATH] <[D]> census. I saved the tag at this point with the role highlighted and the sentence showing thinking that that is how I needed to select that role to use it. The tag is used in the son's record only. The result when I print the Individual
3. [TMG] Foxprow error messages [1]
I recently upgraded from 4.0 to 4.0c and began to get Foxprow error messages under the following circumstances: I would print to screen an individual narrative report (accessing the report from the menu or from the CRW toolbar icon made no difference in the outcome). The report would print fine and I closed the window and would get the box showing the number of endnotes and bibliography. I would close that and almost without exception would get an error message window that said something to the effect that

Here is what I did: I created a new tag and named it Cen-Son in a prior version of TMG (read BR, before roles). When I upgraded to version 4.0c that tag now has two roles - Principal and Witness. Each of them have a default sentence. I have

7. Re: [TMG] Name-Marr Tag [0.970231]
County and parish are in the same level because of our governmental structure. Parish is not a religious unit. In all of the states except Louisiana, the USUAL order of governmental bodies (going from smallest to largest) is city/town, county or parish, state. Louisiana uses the term "parish" but it is essentially interchangeable with "county." ----- Original Message ----- From: Jonas Kuschner To: Sent: Friday, November 24, 2000 4:42 AM Subject: Re: [TMG

Can anyone help me? I am VERY new to this program, have used FTM in the past.. and here is my problem: I have entered a name, then i added a mother, added a father, then from that mother or father i enter the first persons siblings. When I look at the tree view of the first person, it shows him as the only child of the parents, and doesnt show the siblings. Well, my original sources had no surety values attached. I attach them as I clean up. They show on the list, so it's helpful. 12. Re: [TMG] finding people connected with a place [0.970231]
Not only will a LOP report with 'Any tag place contains XXX' find all occurrences of a place, but if you include an OR with the second line as Any tag Memo contains XXX, it will find references to a place that you have put into a memo. For instance, if you had a reference to a 'Fairlawn Cemetery' in a memo and not in the place field, you would that as well. Bill J.

I agree with this too it would be nice to see it on the Person View AND in the MERGE routine. I sure don't want to delete off the tags that have source information. For the MERGE, I would also like it to display the spouse name for marriages. And to avoid my problem of killing the 'marriage' between parents, warn that when merging you need to ensure to keep the parents (if different IDs) from the same Person ID number (color) ... It is a mess when you have to go back and try to put the marriages back tog

16. [TMG] List Of Tasks report [0.970231]
Hi all I have an question regarding the List of Task reports. I'd like to be able to produce the report to a comma delimited file (for import into Excel). I've looked at the output options on the report and haven't found a way of doing this. Also, I'd like to be able to import such a file back into TMG. (I'm thinking about working on the file on a Palm device). How easy would it be for me to write such a utility (given that I have a programming background)? Regards Alison Alison Ruxton Logica Comp

18. [TMG] new computer and 4.0a [0.970231]
I am getting a new computer. My data is in 4.0a. Can I use 4.0 for my 4.0a data? I used to read the TMG digests faithfully--often 2-3 weeks late. Although I have all of the digests on floppy disks & may evenutally read them, I don't have the time to read such a volume of Digests that we now get. I've barely skimmed some lately & am concerned by the data problems some people have reported with 4.0a. I gather there may be another patch (? 4.0c). What are the changes from 4.0a to 4.0c?
19. Re: [TMG] Re: Published work not correct - how to handle [0.970231]
I would make the book the source for all the corrct information that you got _only_ from the book. Make your M-I-L or her sources the sources for the information that he and you got from your M-I-L. Bob, Thank you for your reply. I now know what to do. But for the record, I haven't recorded short place name, place comment, or start/end years for any of these -- the only thing I can think of is that somewhere in the conversion from RIII to UFT (and maybe even to TMG?) something that looks to TMG like one of those got inserted into the file. 25. [TMG] Method of clean up of Master Place List [0.970231]
My master place list seems very irregular. There are a few totally blank records with no entries across the board, quite a few records with only DETAIL entries and SHORT PLACE entries; a few DETAIL without SHORT PLACE entries, DEFAULT LABELS are mostly NO but there are a few marked YES that have no SHORT PLACE entries. All of this irregularity scares you but the bottom line, the reports and endnotes, seem to be OK. I attribute most of this irregularity to the multiple transfers from Roots 3, Roots 4, etc
