2. Re: [TMG] TMG 6.07 - another error [1]
Virginia, I haven't addressed your questions yet regarding my problem. I don't have any custom styles - I'm using standard US styles. I have done as you suggested and turned off the prompts and will see how it goes in the next couple of days. And yes, both of the errors I've experienced today and previously occur only when I am entering spouse data, not mother, father, son or daughter. I hope this helps getting to the bottom of the glitch. Ron Hamlin ----- Original Message ----- From:
3. Re: [TMG] Source Record E-mail addresses [1]
I think trying to keep reference values of physical or e-mail addresses up to date is a losing proposition. A lot of my correspondents are dead (through no fault of my own, I hope). I use the address from which the letter came at the time. It helps to identify the person involved and possible source validity. I am not willing to take on the responsibilty for saying this is a way to contact there person at the time of my publication or in the future. I don't include e-mail addresses in my report
4. Re: [TMG] unknown value [1]
Terry, No, the "unknown value" seems to be history. Not there, whether default sentence or memo sentence. All's well that ends well, I guess. 5. Toolbars [1]
Actually, I am not getting my messages showing on the list again, and have to go to the archive to see them, and your responses. (Thanks Virginia, for that clue). I think it must have to do with my Norton AntiVirus program. Anyway, you say, Terry, that the Tool bar components are in units. That must mean that I cannot remove particular buttons from a particular unit, for ex., I wish the Individual Narrative Preview to show, but not the fan or descendant charts. Do I understand that one must take al
6. RE: [TMG] Marriages not in Person View [1]
That reminds me of a story........years ago (I'm not going to say how long) when I worked opening new accounts at a bank, often a "couple" would come in to open a joint account that were not married and didn't intend to get married. The operations officer came up with a code that we put on the signature cards....... s/ee and s/or. They stood for "shackee" and "shackor".... Of course, that stopped in a heartbeat when the signature cards were digitized and computerized for access by other branch offices
7. RE: [TMG] List of Events Place Report [1]
Thanks, Jim. Good advice. I had put off updating for a while, due to so many reported issues. Looks like they are mostly gone now. 8. TMG 6.07 error/bug [1]
Did it again. Tried to clear the query by example filter and got a message "Blank conditon can not be used." Had to close TMG to clear the filter. I really wish that Wholly Genes would concentrate on reliability. I am really getting annoyed with the bugs. John Heard
9. PDF as Exhibit? [1]
A family member sent me a family document in PDF format. (I think that's all they know how to do.) I can not get it to save as an exhibit for the person. I also can not find a way to save the PDF document in another format such as a JPEG. The program I'm using is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and it says document PDF. Does anyone know if this can be saved somehow as an exhibit or somehow changed on the format type to save and use as an exhibit? I hope this makes sense. Donna
10. Re: [TMG] updating [1]
Is anyone else having trouble downloading from 6.05 to 6.07 or the latest on AOL? This is the first time I have. When using the help menu and checking for the new version. It just shuts down TMG and doesn't go further. Never had this problem before. I tried again this morning it still doesn't work. Pat
11. Re: [TMG] Problem opening data tables [1]
Virginia, Thanks for your reply. There are no .cdx files associated with the project that I am trying to open (I did check per your instructions). When I tried to open Second Site using this database, I got an error message indicating that the index file were missing. I can't open the file in TMG to re-create the index files. Any other suggestions? Thanks again, Jeanette ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 10:02 PM Subject: Re:
12. RE: [TMG] Moving Exibit Folder [1]
Hi Jeff, sorry, missed your message yesterday :-( No, they don't appear to be deleted on Refresh - only new ones created. Unless I've missed something, the only way I've found to deliberately remove outdated thumbnails is by turning them off in Preferences and then turning them back on. However, since I prefer to use PathWiz! anyway, I find the existing 'outdated' thumbnails even useful, since in PathWiz! you can create reports and/or have other ways of finding 'missing' exhibits while the thumbnails stil

In reviewing and studying Elizabeth Shown Mills' "QuickSheet: Citing Online Historical Resources", I have posted on TMG Tip.com a page of Custom Source Types based on my interpretation of her suggested models. The page URL is: . Note that this is a first pass - so to speak, so there may be better interpretations. If anyone wishes to use these, I suggest they refer to Elizabeth's "QuickSheet" for her examples and see if the Custom Source Types
16. RE: [TMG] Cruise --- anyone have photos? [1]
We've done an Alaska, Panama Canal and two European. They are all great! I'd love to join in the next TMG cruise. I'd gladly repeat any of the above. The Eastern US and Canadian seaboard, especially during the fall is supposed to be spectacular. A double vote for this! Theresa, Yes I can see what you mean now and i am getting the same behaviour. it happens with Ste relationships as well. I then changed the relationship to Son-Fst and the unknown father's tag became Father-Fst as well. Jeff Piper http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeffpiper Stanley Co. 19. RE: [TMG] Backups & Transferring Data Set from Desktop to Laptop [1]
Viginia...... You have just received a virtual bear hug!!!! I finally had time to mess around with this again, and I followed your suggestion. I backed up my data set to my thumb. Put the thumb in my laptop, copied the sqz file to my backup file on the laptop, then did a restore from that. Worked perfectly!!!! Oh, I envy you people who are computer gurus. I'm such a nerd when it comes to these things. But when I look back on your suggestion, it's so logical. Why couldn't I figure that out?
20. Re: [TMG] PDF as Exhibit? [1]
Donna, What's in the PDF? text, images, or a combination of both? Just a couple of really quick thoughts, more or less off the top of my head : 1. You could save an image of the screen for each page of the PDF, but then you'd only have screen resolution in the images - pretty horrible. 2. In Linux, which I use most of the time, there is a program to extract the images from a PDF. I'd be glad to give that a try if you want to email your PDF directly to me; no guarantees! For the text components you
21. Re: [TMG] Trial version [1]
I do now. I downloaded the trial right before the cruise, and since I thought I'd have my laptop back by now, I didn't want to bother tech support with the code (which is safely saved in a file on the other computer.) since I was sure I wouldn't need it. But now I do have it and have registered this copy. But I still don't know, if after the trial ran out, would a person be able to make a backup of the data?
