2. RE: [TMG] V5.03 Great Accent Feature [1]
Harold said I find the Accent feature to be a big advantage in recognizing missing data and other characteristics. I have a definition established to show me if a father (red) or mother (green) or both (blue) are unknown -------------- The advanced Picklist shows the 'vacant' cells quite clearly too when the father and mothers' name columns are displayed. Or have I missed something? Regards Bryan Wetton Adelaide SA Family History at http://wetton.cjb.net - 'A Southerner from the North' TMG 5 screen s

Holy *&^$! If I have to buy a GB of memory to run TMG, I'm giving up genealogy. That is completely _ridiculous! Nothing else I run takes more than 128 MB or 256MB, which is what I have on my 2 computers. I'm still not using TMG5 because of the lack of reports. 7. [TMG] Citations, Sources, and Repositories [1]
I've always been somewhat lax about the format of citations, sources, etc. since this has only been a hobby (rapidly becoming an obsession), but I've always recorded the information somehow. I'm confused about some basic concepts. For example, if I consulted a census microfilm at the National Archives and made an abstract... Is the source the microfilm or the abstract? Is the recorder a person (the original enumerator), civil (the US government), or person again (me)? Is the medium the microfilm or the

10. RE: [TMG] Just curious [1]
Obviously you do not use Windows! I don't seem to remember TMG being out since the early 80's and STILL causing Blue Screens Of Death. Come on TMG is a VERY stable program and obviously Bob is supporting it since we are up to version 5.03! I have used Windows since the very beginning and DOS before that and with all their money Microsoft STILL makes computers crash! I have a brand new laptop made by Toshiba and have loaded one program on it, Seti. It came with Windows XP Home. I even upgraded to the n
11. RE: [TMG] Temple vs. Lat/Long [1]
Thanks, Lee, I'll give that issue some thought. But in my case, given my ancestry, the odds of me (or anyone I might share the data with) using "Temple" are slim to none. In New York City, many people refer to where they live with an additional piece of info - basically a "neighborhood", such as Canarsie (which is a section of Brooklyn/Kings County/New York). They even address letters that way. It's not really creative, just another piece of "place" information I need to keep...unless there are any New Y
12. RE: [TMG] Virus get passed Norton? [1]
I just researched this "virus" on the web site of several virus programs. It is a hoax!! That file is a system file and SHOULD NOT BE DELETED. The "virus" is in spreading around the instructions advising people to get rid of a necessary system file. Fran > -----Original Message----- > From: Donna M. 15. [TMG] TMG 5.0 Two people with same ID number [1]
I was looking through my pick list for Frances Heaston but when I clicked on her name the screen for Sarah Hoover came up. Frances Heaston was not a primary name, which means she married a Heaston. Sarah Hoover was a primary name and she also married a Heaston--Christian Heaston. However, Sarah Hoover is not Frances Heaston. Frances Heaston is not mention anywhere on the person screen for Sarah Hoover Then I changed Sarah Hoover's ID number but lo and behold Frances Heaston's ID number was also changed--to

18. Re: [TMG] Re: OT discussion on OT Discussions [1]
Maybe what is needed is a "novice" and "advanced" list as I'm still a novice at TMG and am learning a lot just by reading the emails and seeing how people have done things. The examples are much easier to read than the "help" files. Without a reference manual to refer to, I'm relying on the "help" files but more on the emails in this list. I have started a TMG Keepers local folder for the ones I think most useful. My delete key works just fine!! Barbara Ferguson Hammer ----- Original Message ----- From:
19. [TMG] Name Variations and Witness name variations. [1]
In a tag you can specify a name variation. How do you need to word your sentences to make a name variation appear on a report instead of "He/She" or the Primary name? For example I have an ancestor with wildly different spellings of the name Rannalls, and the interpretations of their first names did not fare much better. I'd like to change the sentence for both the principal and the witnesses. The principle to say: "James Reynolds appeared in the 1850 census...." And the witness to say: "She appeared as R
20. [TMG] Generations import in v5.03 [1]
Can someone offer a clue or hint when the Generations import problems identified in v5.03 will be resolved and an update offered? Until then, v5 is useless to me and many of us have waited a long, long time for the option. Jon Raymond

Hi Linda Woodward Geiger, Welcome to the List. Linda wrote, How do I "make some changes in the [CD] portion of a particular source citation for numerous tags." Either open each tag, select the source citation and then make the change or use John Cardinal's TMG Utility. It is an excellent supplement to TMG. There is a v4 and V5 version. Among the programs many utilities is a procedure that lets you step through every citation for a particular source. You can either automatically replace or manually edi

The F12 key does not work on the Tag Entry screen. In the sample database I went through the following steps. Of course this option will be rather difficult once the tab order is corrected. Yes, I can mouse there but I suffer from repetitive stress injury due to the damned things and prefer not to use the mouse if there

25. [TMG] OT: post-style binders. [1]
Dear TMGers, I am cleaning up my house because we are trying to move soon. I have run across 5 post-style binders for genealogy that I no longer want to keep. They say "Book of Remembrance" on the front of them (I bought them years ago at an LDS bookstore), and have two posts on the short side. They are intended for legal size paper (8.5 x 14). If anyone is interested in them, you may have them for the cost of shipping them to you. Please contact me off list: nhelkenn@pacbell.net. Nadine H.
