1. Re: [TMG] Recording information for siblings [1]
N.N. is a standard genealogical abbreviation for "not named" which is used in perfectly respectable genealogical publications. You have data on these people, so you SHOULD put them in. You just don't have their names. You also only have to have one parent in order to enter siblings in TMG, not both. On Sat, 2003-10-11 at 18:25, Paul M. What is required is to add a parent/child tag to connect her to the father and/or mother of the her sister. To do this, from her person view, click the + button or press
3. [TMG] Another Source Element wrinkle [0.969556]
I appreciate everyone's patience. I'm working on my very first sentence structures and source template changes (after MONTHS of study). Problem No. 1: I created a new Source Element called SUPERVISORS DISTRICT. I tried SUPERVISOR'S DISTRICT, but TMG kept cropping the last t, even though the field length is within the 21 character maximum. I thought it might have something to do with the apostrophe, so I got rid of it. I assigned this element to the SECOND PERSON group. When I use the new template and ente

5. RE: [TMG] Replacing sources [0.969556]
Hi Fran, I'm going to try both methods before I make a final decision, if there is such a thing as a final decision. Early in this discussion, I received the following from Bruce Evans: "Allan, there are two groups of people in this world, it doesn't matter what the field--lumpers and splitters. Welcome from a fellow lumper." They say that "it takes one to know one" and Bruce spotted me right away. My intent is to develop generic source templates to suit my own particular needs and to have as few of them
6. [TMG] Filter snafus [0.969556]
I ran into a couple of small filter snafus and wondered if it is something I'm doing. 1) In selecting the field "Is an Ancestor", I found that the filter missed about 6 direct line ancestors (out of 260). I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason for this. 2) Whenever I select the field "# of Death tags" and occasionally "# of Birth tags", the Subfield is grayed out, the Operator and Value fields do not appear at all. In one instance when I selected # of Birth tags", I got the same result, but TMG also tri

I have just run into a problem while I was testing TMG Utility, all my places lost their detail information. I haven't been on this list for a while so I searched the archives to see if anyone else had run into the same problem. 10. RE: [TMG] TMG and Web Sites (Second Site) [0.969556]
While TMG can split off sub-databases, in this case a better solution would be to use flags to mark the various subsets you want to use (use the list of people report to set them) and use Second Sites filtering capability to generate a site for that subset. The dropping of a number of people may indicate that you are doing this now, possible by the removing of "living" people. If you have people with out a death tag or a birth tag TMG by default gives them a living status of ? which Second Site will assume

TMG doesn't actually create the index itself. Rather, it embeds Word's index codes within the file. So, after you open the fi

Evelyn, I'm not an expect on the Quakers, although my husband was raised in the Quaker faith. Our children were "dedicated" to God at a young age in the Quaker church so my in-laws were satisfied, and then they were later baptized in the Methodist church which is where I was raised. My understanding of the Quakers is that they do not believe in all the rituals and sacraments of other religions as they feel their faith is between just themselves and God. Maybe some one else has a little more information on t

Thanks Teresa. I'm doing something like this now thanks to all the help from the list over the past few days - making focus groups for research and also for cleaning up my data - identifying manageable chunks to clean and changing the cleaned flag etc. Can see that I'll be reading lots of your Tips for the Day and webpages once I get to undestand these things a little better. Jill, I don't see either of these Source Types in TMG4 or TMG5 - perhaps you created them yourself? As for the "sticking" problem, did you run Optimize and Validate File Integrity? 23. Re: [TMG] TMG 5.09 - Ordering of common dated tags after GEDCOM import - a bug? [0.969556]
John, you don't say how many people you have in your database but I think you should look at re-entering your data manually into TMG. TMG sorts tags by date or sort date. You have not mentioned any relationship tags such as marriage or parent-child. You have made a separate tag for the various bits of information from different sources. Especially with the Census Tags information like age and (Marital) condition can be put in the Census Tag memo; or if the Census is the source for a birth or marriage,

25. Re: [TMG] Merging Projects or Data Sets??? [0.969556]
I think this will work. In TMG 4 Make a List of people with a filter of Last Edited date > date you first transferred date to TMG 5 and secondary output of new data set. Import the new data set into your TMG 5 project and then merge the data sets into a new data set.. HOWEVER if you added or changed info on people entered into the TMG 4 data set you will have duplicates. Then you will have to merge the duplicate but changed people. But first make a list of people with the above filter and print it out.
