1. RE: [TMG] TMG and MS EXCEL [1]
From TMG menus choose File- Export to - Microsoft Excel (*.xls). This will create a series of files which you can open in Excel. Unless you are familiar with the database structure these may be of limited use to you. What is your specific goal in getting the data into Excel? Are you really trying to share some sort of report in Excel? .....Bob Howey ______________________________________ Bob Howey robert.howey@thomastechsolutions.com _____________________________________ -----Original Message-----
2. Re: [TMG] Re: donated eggs [1]
A bizarre incident in our family closet shows the need to know your biological descent. A boy, given for adoption by his birth mother, and a girl, given for adoption by her birth father (the birth mother and the birth father being siblings living in different states), coincidentally were raised in the same town, attended the same schools, chummed with the same crowd, and even group dated. Only as adults, when they learned their biological parentage, did they discover that they were first cousins! Joan
3. Re: [TMG] attn:Cheri -Indexes in MS/Word [1]
See my earlier reply. No can do. Word has it hardwired so that endnotes MUST be the last item in the document. You can't even fool it by converting all of the endnotes to footnotes, creating the index at the bottom, and converting them back. It comes out great until you convert back to endnotes. Then Word makes the index jump up a slot and the endnotes become the last item. There appears to be no work around. Guess you guys will need to complaint to MS. Good luck! They aren't too responsive. 4. John's Utility Change Citations, was Re: [TMG] Comments on writing the book [1]
And to add more straw to camel John's back , would it somehow be possible to also have an option to "Include on primary name tags only"? The reason: I have several groups of people where, at this point, most of the information comes from one source per group. In my data set I want the citations on all individual events, but in reports to others I'd prefer to have it on the primary name tag (not always Name-Var) for each person only to prevent repetition of the same source over and over, while still ment
5. [TMG] It's happened again. [1]
This has happened to me before and it has happened again, but I can't recall the fix. When I go to the Master Place List, the Detail field is missing. I have , but no . All the other fields are there. LEE http://home.earthlink.net/~lkreider/

Many thanks for all your thoughts on this subject. I have decided to keep with baptism and not change. However as many poeple have pointed out there is no right answer here. Regards Tony Field http://homepage.ntlworld.com/anthony.field/ www.chasetrek.org.uk (remove NOSPAM from email address)

10. RE: [TMG] Fuzzy relations [1]
Dale, I use my ANCESTOR flag for this and set the color accordingly so that I know they are "possible" relations when I see them in the picklist. Not sure if this will help you though; you'll have to decide whether you want to use one color for all "possibles" or whether you want to use one color for "possibles" on your fathers side, and one for "possibles" on your mothers side. I also use a different color for people I have added as witnesses but that I have no reason to believe are related. regards, bet
11. RE: [TMG] "Working" message after every data entry [1]
Michael, I don't know if this will help you, but I get the "working" box when the program is booting up the first time, and also *rarely* when I'm doing something within the program that takes time. (I have PIII 750 and 128 ram also) If you are getting the working message frequently then maybe you have a resource problem? You can check resources: double click my computer; select properties; select performance. I found that having limited resources free really bogged down my TMG. I solved it by closing progr
12. Re: [TMG] Christening or Baptism? [1]
I had the same situation entering a number of my wife's English ancestors in TMG. I entered their records as baptisms and then when I created a gedcom file to be used in the LDS Temple Ready program I found that baptisms were not recognized as the primary birth event by Temple Ready. Since most of the English parish register entries only give the baptism/christening date and do not indicate a birth date, the christening date is usually used as the primary birth event. (An exception is when a

Pam, Windows ME will not allow you to do reports from TMG, but otherwise the program works. Under Windows 2000 TMG runs just great, reports and all!
15. [TMG] Sierra's Generations v8.5.1 [1]
I'm thinking of transferring my data from Generations to TMG and I have some questions. Generations allows the creation of user defined GEDCOM tags. I use one to mark living people with deceased spouses. Living persons can therefore have two tags: living and living, spouse deceased. Will TMG allow me create a GEDCOM tag that will recognize the user defined tag being imported from Generations? Generations allows multiple addresses: unique addresses for each person, their spouse, and a family addre

In some parts of the religious world and in some areas, Christening and Baptism are used interchangeably. This is true of much of the Church of England and it's Episcopal offspring in this country. However, this varies by local usage. BTW, the derisive name given to groups in Europe who insisted that persons converted to their faith be baptized as adults was "Annabaptists"

I have the relationship calculator turned "on," as I like to see the relationship to myself and all the people in my database. But what does it mean when it says, "Cancelled relationship calculation for (me)"? I think the person in question is a cousin many times removed. FYI, I have her father's name, but no mother. Neil and others: Who said that only location of the source goes into the CD. Who said what should go into the memo field. Did you? Certainly I did not, and we, you and I, and hundreds of other users of TMG are the judges of what goes into what fields. If there is one great thing about TMG it is the extreme flexibility of the program which allows a great variety of personal preference. As far as I know there is no TMG body similar to the group of French linguists who sit around and make up French langu

I have been using Family Tree Maker for several years now but am considering moving to TMG. I would like to hear from other users who have done this. Is it worth the expense and effort? How is TMG support? Do they listen to user requests for enhancements? Can I expect all of my data to be imported correctly? Are charts well designed? Do they offer an evaluation copy? Thanks! ...Mike

I have a different Palm (the Palm IIIc), but it also has 8MB, but with no expansion slots. I use GedWise (formerly GedVisor), but I tried GedStar too. I advise you to download trial versions of both, play with them, and see which works better for your own needs. Each program has its advantages and disadvantages. GedStar uses smaller data files (important if you have limited space on your Palm, or if you have a huge database of relatives). GedWise uses bigger data files, but includes a wider variety of tags
