1. [TMG] Bug in sourcing tags [1]
Forgive me if this has already been reported, but I've found a bug in 5.09 that didn't exist in 5.08 To reproduce, chose a tag that has no citation. Double Click on the tag. Open the citation window Put in sureties for name and date, but not place. Close the citation window. If you exit the tag window now, everything will be fine. But instead of exiting, reopen the citation and put in a surety for place (for example). Now close the tag window and the citation disappears. You have to go back and re-ente

Which report gives you lists of families? Don't forget that for the LDS, collecting people into families is needed for the temple work. The FGS is their most important unit. You kidding? Microsoft won't give you the time of day unless you pay exorbitant support fees. From what I've heard from those who pay the support fees, that support is none too good, either. My experience with Intuit and McAfee has been terrible too, in Intuit's case, we even had paid the exorbitant fees. TMG has

You have been hornswoggled! This is a well known hoax, which you have been tricked into propagating onto this list. Virus warnings are banned from this list, for good reason. You have just deleted one of your legitimate Windows files. Thanks, but your suggestion still didn't seem to work: 1. any event any place field equals Ost Friesland and 2. any event DATE <= * 1717 and 3. Sex = M End * "does not come after" This filter still resulted in numerous folks with dates which start after 1717 and are in some way qualified. Jeff, Thank you so much. Deleting all of the *.CDX files in the project folder, solved it entirely. I am particularly grateful for your speedy response, as the lost data set is rather special. Tomorrow we are visiting a lady aged 96 who has memories of living with her grandmother's family before and during the first world war. I used censuses etc to put together a data set of the people in the London street when she was born - her grandparents, uncles, aunts etc, with another gt grandmother nextdo

11. Re: [TMG] What's going on with this Grey Out Business [0.969239]
I'm sorry, but not being able to find the cause of a major bug such as this one is a cop out used by companies who do not wish to allocate the resources to fixing a known bug (can u say FTM). This is a problem frequently reproducible by apparently many users (myself included). If companies who produce software for corporate clients take this attitude then they soon go bankrupt from losing clients. Unfortunately, companies who produce software for individual consumers have the luxury of ignoring bugs which a

15. RE: [TMG] Singular v Plural in Role Sentences [0.969239]
[R:sons] in the sentence for Role=sons will list only that person. [RF:sons] (or any of the other variants) will list all of the people in this role. When you wrote "[R:sons] were" you were thinking that you would get multiple subjects, and thus the plural was correct, actually you get only the current so you need a singular verb. Since [W] can be used to get just the current person, I wish that [R:role] would always list all of the people with that role. Others are used to always referring to people by the

Bobbie, Thanks for your thoughts, it was very helpful and pretty much reflected my concerns with sourcing in these publications. As I'm reading this, it occurs to me that it might be a great Off Topic discussion, so I'll move it to OT and get it started. You say that you would assign a 2 to Torrey but only a 1 to Banks and Savage. It would be interesting to hear from others about what surety they would consider assigning to these and others of the old "Tried and True", well known genealogical publicatio

18. RE: [TMG] more questions re name styles [0.969239]
You can also use the Name-other field for the ages (just discovered it too late to be of any use to my research.) I do what you say about changing the name preference and it works fine. John's utility will also change the name styles too, so what I do before I run a report is have it find all the NAME-1850 name tags, and change their name styles to NAME-1850 name style. Just remember that you will lose your annotations when the next upgrade comes out if it updates the help files. Teresa Ghee Elliott For ex

20. RE: [TMG] TMG v5.09 Gray Outs -revisited [0.969239]
Patty, Could be, but the fan does help with the overheating, and I do notice that TMG runs faster with the fan on. The reason that they changed the BIOS was it controls the fan settings and that allows the internal fan to cut on sooner. It is just one more thing to check on if you are having problems with TMG. I might add that I have never seen the gray out problem with TMG on this machine nor has it crashed since we got it back from the factory even without the fan, so hopefully the problems I had initi

Lee, I told yhou I was confused! Sorry about changing horses in mid stream (?) i.e. Deed and Tax. You see to me Publisher means as in the publisher of a book--I'm not thinking of Repository--though I'm sure I tried that too. Then Manuscript Info is a element too. What I seem to find often is that the Source Elements that often come up don't seem to match what it shows in the book. I'll try again. Usually not so dense. Thanks to Astrid & Theresa for setting me straight on this. Even after you told me what to do, I was sitting here staring at the list of choices under Subfield, trying to figure out what on earth you were talking about, when it occurred to me to look under Field. Now everthing works nicely, except for the problem I have with undated tags. Oh well, I guess everything can't be automated and I will have to do a little work. Thanks again. 23. Re: [TMG] Comments in source output form not updating, 5.09 [0.969239]
Hi Michael, I reported this to Wholly Genes the week before last. I did fully check it out before reporting, and I had no experience of data loss--i.e., the new text I'd typed in the Comments field was retained, it just wasn't updated wherever it needed to be for the output preview. When I'd exited the Tag and then re-entered, my changes were still present in every case and the output preview worked. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release, it's probably something small . . . --Elizabeth

Jack, TMG doesn't *assume* a marriage, you have to tell it that a pair married in some way. In what way is it showing a marriage? Is there a marriage tag? If so, delete that tag. If that's not it, then where are you seeing a marriage? In a particular report?
