1. Re: [TMG] He in a Journal report Ver 5.15 [1]
** my Web e-mail client sets "Reply To" against my will, sorry ** Greetings: I'm not sure how I think it *should* act, but I think there is a bona fide question here. Let's say the following Tags exist in the following sort date order for one person: 1. The focus person was born. (John Smith is his primary Name-Var.) 2. He changed his name to Fred Smith (Name-Var Tag with memo: "and back to John as it suited his fancy"). 3. He joined the Navy. (The name selected for the Tag is the
2. RE: [TMG] Ages and passing the torch [1]
Don't assume that it will be one of your children that will take the torch. It was my great aunt that got me addicted. She asked me to find George L. Gee's father. Now 4 computers, 8 computer programs, thousand's of dollars, four filing cabinets and three children later, and I still have no clue who George's father is. I do know for a fact that about 20 men are NOT his father. In the meantime, we have moved three times, I proved my husband was my 6th cousin (another line), been to 15 family reunions of

4. RE: [TMG] TMG v6.03 - Place Style [1]
In my simplistic use of TMG, I have stayed away from place styles. I have a "birth" and "birthin" tags. The birth tag uses "at" while the "birthin" tag uses "in". 5. Re: [TMG] Ages [1]
Female, 57 years (for a few more days!), from Michigan. I started genealogy research about 15 or so years ago. Eventually used FTM so I could see all my data, but got frustrated with it because I wanted to see conflicting data at a glance without having to look into the Notes section every time. Also I wanted to see at a glance how sure I was of the different data I had entered and what my source for each part of that data was - date, place, etc. So in 2002, I checked out all the genealogy programs availab

Hi, Checking in on the "age survey". Starting searching in the 60's looking for my husbands ancestor as he was jealous of all my cousins. His was so easy I got spoiled. We live in Boston, and his ancestors were on the Mayflower. So nice, practically all of the records in one state!!!. I was about 30 years old. Have kept at it all these years (now 72 11/12ths) and have only recently found my own maternal grandmother's birthplace in Sweden after years of searching! Age is irelevant. Have a
9. RE: [TMG] Obituary Tag [1]
If they had a role mentioned, like He was preceded in death by his grandfather, I would list that person as GRANDFATHER. IF it says he was preceded in death by John Doe, and no relationship given, even if I know that John Doe was his grand father, I'd still list John Doe as preceded in death. I use the WM feature a lot in this tag. I also will add roles if a new obituary calls for it. That's how I got all the ones I have now. 10. Re: More on [TMG] Help needed with filter for people who have witness roles in particular location [1]
Teresa (and Terry) After reading Terry's reply I realized that what I probably wanted was Witnessed Land Grant as the Field and Role as the Subfield, rather than Witnessed Role as the subfield. So I used this filter: Land Grant County Contains Camden AND (Land Grant Role=Grantee OR Witnessed Land Grant Role=Grantee) END This got me all of the GRANTEES on Land Grant Tags with Camden in the county, but I only got two of the adjoinees and there are many more. I then ran this filter: Land Grant County Co

12. problem setting roles for multiple marriages [1]
I just started using Terry's model for using roles for multiple marriages and it is great! However, when I open an existing marriage tag to apply the roles, I find that when the a principal's role is set, the other principal's role randomly jumps to something completely unexpected. For instance, when I set P1 role to 2nd marriage, the P2 role suddenly jumps to Third or Fourth marriage. I then have to set it back to Principal, bride, First, or whatever to correct it. This is very discerning and time cons

18. Re: [TMG] Thank you and a question about question marks [1]
Thank you for version 6.02. I continue to be impressd with all the capabilities of TMG. I imported a data set from GEDCOM. It had some of the "EstWFT date-date" tags imported as death tags (for instance, a person's death tag date reads "EstWFT 1800-1850"). Since TMG does not recognize that date, it shows up (in the Project Explorer and picklist as a question mark (so, for instance, one person is indexed as "Beaver, Moses, 1800-?") In the past (before 6.01) I simply deleted each individual's death

Beth. I have a very similat situation. When I went from 6.01 to 6.02 I had to use the "Check for an update" from the Help menu instead of the check for a program update from my Start Menu, program folder ( as below); this is the usual method that I use for updating TMG. The same situation holds true when updating from 6.02 to 6.03. The only difference for me is that the "Check for an update" from the Help menu is working. I am using WinXP SP2. John.
