etc.?
Regarding William Alexander Smith, I'd check the 1850 census for

Hi,
I am starting research on my great-grandfather's side of the family. I found
a reference to him on the Cocke Co Genweb site: "In 1885 a Baptist Seminary
was opened under the care of N.E.W. Stokely."
Does anyone have any information or can point me to a source that might have
details on this Seminary? Or N.E.W. Stokely. I'm told he was both a
newspaperman ('N.E.W.S.!") and a teacher; that he invented his own form of
shorthand and ran a business school (the Baptist Seminary was news to me).

Hello,
I don't belong to this mailing list but found something I though may be of
interest to some of you. I have recently come across a book titled: At Home
in the Smokies.
It lists many of the pioneer families that settled what is now the Great

and Cocke in Tenn. as well as the counties of Swain and Haywood in North
Carolina. There are also many pictures of these people as well as some
homes , churches and schools. I have list
Phebe HARVEY, was listed on the 1830 Census of Cocke Co. a widow

records concerning care of the minor children to be found. What were
the choices for supporting the children?
According to the census for 1840-1850-1860-1870 Phebe HARVEY was
living in Meigs Co. And appears to have a male child under 5 yrs.
Need to know where he came from? There (Meigs Co.)she md Samuel
