1. 1851 Cocke Co., TN Population [1]
The quote from OTMBM?-(Over the Misty Blue Mountains?)-state that there were a few hundred "black" people in the county in 1851-I have been told that my gg-grandfather, Charles DUNGY-was residing in the county at time of the 1830 and 1840 census taking. I have never been able to find any siblings for him or anyone connected to him. I would also like to know if there is anyway of learning where he lived in the county. Can anyone with access to those old records help? Or can anyone tell me where to turn?

4. James & Elijah & Lemuel & "Phillip or Millard F." Buckner [1]
James Buckner (b. abt. 1797 in Va.) possibly had sons Elijah Buckner and James A. Buckner (and possibly more family I am not aware of). Elijah (b. abt. 1832/1834 possibly in Cocke Co. married a Catherine _______ (b. abt. 1829) possibly abt. 1855 in Cocke Co., Tn. (?). I would like to know her maiden name and possible the spouse of James b. 1797. Lemuel (b. abt. 1856) married Vina Turner on 1/13/1879 and I think she was Lavina or Lavinia J. Turner b. abt. 1860. Also, I believe that Lemuel's brother called e
5. Darby, Inman, Ramsey, Reede, Turner Court Case & Bibee / Buckner / Calfee / Cox / Fox / Smith / Rufus Crumley / Jeptha Woods [1]
I need help in solving the mystery of who these people are in this court case. As I understand it from family history, when my great, great grandfather John (1805) Tuner passed away abt. 1871 there was a legal battle over his land which I was led to believe was substantial in size. The out come of the court case would be nice to know but I am trying to trace my ancestry back to Cocke Co. and find out who were some of my great, great aunts and uncles, the spouses names etc. A bit of family background might

There is an "Inventory of Notes and Accounts belonging to the estate of James Bellah, Dec." Some of the examples are: One note on Walter Bellah drawn in favor of Moses Bellah
7. [TN Cocke] - Heirs of William Vinson [1]
All, I'm almost done with abstracting volume 1 of Cocke County deeds. Anyone researching the Vinson/Vincent family will be interested in pages 493 thru 529. These deal with heirs of William Vinson selling their interests in the estate to Anderson A. Vinson, Jr. Chancery Court records volume 1 pages 92-104 deal with the partition of the estate of William Vinson, naming his children and some of their heirs. Administrators Settlements Volume 2, page 480-487 deal with the estate of Wil

What year do these deeds cover? I am looking for info in the late 18th and early 19th centuries but had understood that the courthouse had burned down and the records were lost. My primary interest is in the Lillard, Allen and Mckay/McCoy families. 9. Deed books #1 and old #17 [1]
All, I have finished abstracting the two earliest deed books for Cocke County, old deed book #17 and deed book #1. These are on TSLA microfilm #21 in their Cocke County series. The abstracts list names involved, district numbers (when given), and land marks (for example "south side of French Broad River"). There are 600+ entries, including some powers of attorny and records of Civil War discharges. Of these entries, 245 have obvious family tree value, such as giving relationships, or

11. Wood/North [1]
Can someone tell me if there are any marriage records for the year 1816. I'm looking for Alexander Wood b. 1794 TN and Nancy North b. May 4, 1800 TN. I feel certain that Alexander is the son of Joseph Wood and that Alexander had brother's John and David that stayed in Cocke Co. TN when Joseph, Alexander and bothers Jesse, Andrew, Jeriah, Levi and sister Elizabeth went on to Central Missouri. I'm pretty sure that Nancy North is the daughter of Gilbert and had a brother James. I have no proof of the relations
12. Huff and Corder [1]
Glad to hear from you. I truly think that the research Aunt Mary Lou & I have done is going to force a re-evaluation of my Samuel HUFF. The work of Max HUFF & Granville HOUGH doesn't contain a mention of the family tie-ins I can make. There is no whisper of the exceptionally strong family connection of the children & grand-children of the four CORDER sisters. Given the destruction of documents it is hard to know if on paper proof will ever verify all the implied family connections. But I am dead

15. Information about Williamsons in Cocke County [1]
I am researching my family in Cocke County and have run into some snags. My family, Williamson, dates back to the early 1800's in Cocke County. I have traced back to Reuben Williamson, my great great great grandfather. He was born in Cocke County around 1814. There is a John Williamson who died in 1813 and his family received pension benefits (listed in the 1835 Pension Rolls). If anyone has any information about the Williamsons in Cocke County, please let me know. Thank you! Sam Williamson
16. Re: TNCOCKE-D Digest V04 #53 [1]
Still looking for info on my Dungy family while living in Cocke Co., TN. My g-grandfather, William was born in Cocke in 1827-known to be of French descent but adopted by a Portugese sailor-Charles Dungy-who is found as a free man of color in Cocke Co., TN in both 1830 and 1840.I have been told that he is listed as Charles Dingy. One of the descendents believe that Finley/Findley was William's birthname-as given by an elderly ancestor. I think there were Breedens in Cocke and William's sister and her Breeden
