1. [TNHARDIN] blackberry dumplings, sweet pototo cobbler, bread pudding [1]
Here are three more recipes from books on traditional Appalachian cooking. Hardin County and Middle and West Tennessee fall into this speech/cultural region, which includes western Virginia, western North Carolina, northern Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, southern Illinois, Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma. It is not Southern cooking. These recipes are modernized, but you would really not want recipe calling for things such as saleratus or single-action baking powder. And in the 1920s most women in Hardin Co

My most elusive ancestors are: Alford KENADY or KENNEDY - not sure of date of birth but he died between 1870 and 1880 in Tennessee. 7. [TNHARDIN] Need "Old" recipe for chicken pot pie. [1]
I have tried to make the Chicken Pot Pie that my grandfather requested for his July birthday. Maybe as a child it tasted better than it really was. Same way school houses shrink up and not as large as when you were in the second grade thing. This pot pie was to die for, believe me. It was only chicken and sauce in a double crust pie. Vegetables were served separately. I also remember how good the vinegar cobbler and tea cakes were. I would appreciate it very much if someone has an old chicken pot pie re

11. [TNHARDIN] Marriage Records of Hardin County [1]
Hi, I'm trying to locate information on a marriage that occurred in Savannah, Hardin County, Tennessee on 10-8-1868 between William L. Estill and Frances Drucilla Morris. I have searched all possible census records to find the parents of Frances Drucilla Morris and have come up empty handed, with the exception that her parents were born in Georgia. I am hoping that marriage records will show the names of her parents. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Wanda DeGidio

Bill, Sounds like you are talking about Crump City Park? Highway 64 is the only US highway running through Hardin County. You can't miss Crump which is west, across the river bottom from Savannah. Turn off at City Hall. 19. RE: [TNHARDIN] Reunion & old recipes [1]
My Grandmother made me a vinegar pie one time, because she was always telling me, "if you don't behave, I'm going to make you a vinegar pie." So, one day she did. I don't know the exact recipe, but basically it was a cobbler that was flavored with a cap full of vinegar. She said it was popular during the depression when they often did not have anything fruit to put in the pie. -----Original Message----- From: Sandra Lee [SMTP:ihunt4kin@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 4:48 PM To: TNHARDIN

22. [TNHARDIN] New Mailing List for AW-TN [1]
Hello, I am the administrator for the new SW Tennessee mailing list, covering the Counties of Hardin, Wayne, Chester, McNairy, Hardeman, Fayette, Shelby & Tipton. My ancestors lived in some of these counties and frequently crossed the line over into NW Alabama and moved back and forth. They were very elusive, moving so frequently, changing their names and starting over every time they made a change in location. Since they are my brick wall and hearing from others who have the same problem, I decided to begi
