From a friend and fellow genealogist. Sophrona (Frona) Mabe was the oldest child of Reuben Mabe. Frona had four children out of wedlock, then she married John Minor 18 Feb 1882. I agree with you on that David. It's the only thing that makes sence.
I also believe that William knew more about this and he tried to hide it as well on the Marriage Cert as to who his parents were. Just my opinion.

The three 1900 Mabes match up very well with Sophrona's marriage to John Minor. Perhaps she was pregnant when she got married. Since they were prosecuted frequently for L&A in the 1890s, perhaps all of the Lawson children were Sophrona's. DNA testing would be the only way to prove
