This year, summer camp comes with a twist. Kids are invited to bring along
an adult family member to participate in the East Tennessee Historical
Society's summer genealogy camp. The camp will be held July 9-12 at the ETHS
headquarters in the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville. The

Mr. Proffitt was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Roane County, the son of Walter and
Bertha Tilley Proffitt.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of
America. He had worked at Goby, Windrock and Fork Mountain coal mines.

WELCKER, MINNIE ERLE ROBERTS - age 99, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June
4, 2001, at Hillcrest North Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for
several years. Mrs. Welcker was born in Roane County on May 8, 1902, one of
10 children of Samuel and Patsy Roberts. A native of Oliver Springs, she
