1. [TOWNSEND] Re: TOWNSEND-D Digest V03 #85 [1]
Obvuously, I hit someones nerve, SORRY.... I have posted to this list about the Townsend I was attempting to research, obviopusly someone didn't bother to read all of what I wrote. I never received a response I could clearly identify as a response to my inquiry. I have located the Marriage, Divorce and Death records of the man I was attempting to locate. As far as being related to William the Conqurer, I have beautiful chart's on the Dodson/Dotson and the Spilman/Spelman families that show their relatio
2. Re: [TOWNSEND] Who is "my" Levi Townsend? [1]
I really don't know anything about an Amos, Zeph, or Levi. There are many Ebers but mine is probably the earliest one, being born 1760. Eber's sons were named Gilbert and Samuel. E, G, and S did not stay in NJ that long as they moved to Steuben Co where Eber died and is buried with his wife. Gilbert moved on to IN and Sam to MI. I wouldn't put too much stock in the move to NJ. Perhaps all the young DC fellas heard of a job opportunity there and thought it was a good idea to move away from the folks.

4. Re: [TOWNSEND] Medievial Lines [1]
Elaine, I too use the LDS ancestral files as reference point in my research, when I do not have a clue as to which county or state the one I am researching lived, I check on the LDS site many times it gives me a starting point and sometimes I do get lucky and find another generation of names and if you are really lucky sometimes you may find a maiden name. It may not give you a document source but it does help narrow down as to where to go to find one. Another good site is GENDEX www.gendex.com/gendex/
5. [TOWNSEND] Burned county... [1]
Tom Townsend, Shame on you. With your interest in the reconstruction of battles, you should know that in the South, a "burned county" means the Yankees burned the court house and this isn't something we (unless you are Oyster Bayers) should wink over. Betty
6. Re: [TOWNSEND] Back to Basics? [1]
Hi Matt, That's great, thank you. I'm a complete novice so haven't been anywhere or done anything as far as this game is concerned! I'm especially interested in the list of Brummie Townsends, and will join Rod Neep's mailing list. 7. [TOWNSEND] Indiana Marriage Reords [1]
Since we probably all have relatives' families in Indiana, I will share info from today's mail-newsletter from Ye Old Genealogy Shoppe in Indianapolis. Here's what they say: "We feel like a little celebration of some of the accomplishments we have achieved this past year. We purchased the manuscripts and copyrights to all of Colleen Alice Ridlen's extensive list of publications including her fine list of Indiana early marriage record books. They are all currently in print." .............. On their list I

9. [TOWNSEND] Surrogate Court Records [1]
Hi Lew, Thank you for your reponse. When I saw the names I thought the info might be pertinent to my research. Now that I understand the dates, however, I realize that my reaction was a false alarm. 12. Re: [TOWNSEND] Back to Basics? [1]
Although I disagree with some of what John has said, there is truth in his argument. It is a well-known fact (and a much researched one at the New England Historic Genealogical Society) that many of the New England settlers were related to English landed gentry. In turn, many of the English landed gentry of the 1600's were descended from medieval English nobility, and they in turn MAY have descended from royalty. My grad work was in English medieval history so I know how difficult it is to research this

Hello, I usually use "listen" on the sidelines, but I had to jump in on this one. We all need to keep in mind that the information found in Ancestral File, available to us through the LDS church, is no different than what is available through RootsWeb. It is information people share with each other to try and help each other. Sure there are going to be errors here and there, but there are errors in the information people share through RootsWeb, too. Although Ancestral File does not list the docu
