Hi List,
I found these Townsends - I am not sure which line they belong to. I hope
this helps someone.

This is all correct. Note therefore that Benedictus Townsend was married by
1736 to Lucilla Light. They lived in Sussex County, Delaware. Although the
deed was recorded later, the 1750/1745 dates appear to refer back to the 1736
land sale. Therefore it appears the family was gone from the area in 1750.
That they show up in 1751 on the Dan River seems to bolster this.
Sussex, Delaware at the time, the Dan River, and then Marlboro were all
areas of great religious tolerance. It is
Thx Peggy. I've added the JS Townsend article to my FTM file.

There is so much new eastern shore-southern Townsend information flooding in
right now it is wonderful. When it rains it pours. I almost can't digest it
all. Basically, however I have the following working premise/hypothesis.
There was a group of related Townsends of the Quaker religion, practicing in
the Northampton/Accomac area of Virginia in the 1650's, apparently many of
them in one of the most important business of the day, carpentry, as well as
planters with servants but not slaves, a
Who has found a connection to a HENRY Townsend, b 1773 in Cabarrus Co. NC?
He had daughters Esther (m. Moss) and Susan (m. Denson)and others no doubt.
He died in central KY 1834.

Hi All,
I am a descendant of Gilbert Townsend (Eber) and Mary (Polly) Saxon, then
John Townsend and Temperance Householder, then John Wesley Townsend and
Margaret Elizabeth Goodin. This family was in NY, some then moved to
Indiana and then some moved on to Nebraska and point west.
I have recently began corresponding with a descendant of the Hedge family.
Her ancestor Abner Hedge was a brother of John Hedge who married my John
Wesley Townsend's sister, Mary Elizabeth. She had seen some of the items I

Please let me know if the Snow Hill John Townsend 1641 is the one married to

Isn't that the Richard Townsend who is well-documented and who settled just
outside Philadelphia?

Very true. he may show up as Benedictus or as William. On all of the early
deeds that I have seen, the parties involved were mainly Quaker. The Light
family that he married into appear to have be
Matt,
I made copies of the two wills. Sat down and started writing out the Henry
will tonight. Got about 2/3's of the way through and stopped because it is
the most boring will I have ever read. A bit disappointing, considering who
they were.
I work Monday night so will try to scan and e-mail on Tuesday. If I can't
get our scanner out of photo mode, it may be better to take the will and
scan at work Weds.
Anyhow, will do it this week.

Reconstructed Ship Passenger List
Deal to Pennsylvania, August - October 1682
Reconstructing the Welcome Passenger List 1682
The Ship Welcome sailed from Deal, England, departing 31 August 1682, and
arrived at the mouth of the Delaware River (New Castle) on 27 October 1682,
later anchoring at Chester, Pennsylvania (28 October). William Penn and friends
then went to Philadelphia. The ship's master was Robert Greenway. A passenger
list has not survived,
Lew,
You guys are doing wonderful work, and I know how hard it is, especially
with a new "tool" in the genealogy toolbox. Could you please check out the
Walker dna website? They have over 200 testees, and they present it in a
different, but similar, way.

you click on to see the groups, analysis, genealogies)

Yes, Lewis, John Townsend married to Elizabeth Danford is my line. I could
use any documentation that is available. I have a copy of John's will. I
am descended through John's son William but have never found proof that he
is the son of John since he is not mentioned in the will.
I am also interested in the DNA study of this family and hope to contact a
descendant of John's whose DNA proves the connection. My Townsend line
connects through Elizabeth Townsend, daughter of William and Elizabeth

Hi List,

I sent this morning.

New York, and died September 23, 1908 in Blackford County, Indiana2. He

I would like to request some help. I am part of the SC Townsends and
I have gotten some information from here and there. I sometimes see
information on this list that has a name I am looking up but the
dates are a little off.
What I would like is to either find a place that I can verify my work
or if someone is researching along the same lines, email me or allow
me to download there .GED file on them so I can compare to what I have.
The person that I am researching is :
John Franklin Townsend b.0
There are three Townsend photos at this website that might be of interest to some.

Benedictus seems an odd name for a Quaker. Very Latin sounding.

Not sure I'm seeing the flood of Eastern Shore Townsend information that you
are, but here in an update on the Snow Hill Townsend that started with John
1641 in Accomack VA.
There are now 6 participants with matching Y chromosome DNA results where
one or more have good solidly documents paper histories.
It would be useful if more persons would join the nearly 60 Townsend males
tested to date - so that more family groups might emerge.
Check out www.townsendsociety.org and choose the DNA project o
Does anyone know this William R TOWNSNED (born abt 1874) found in 1910
Antlers,Pushmataha, OK Census and 1920 Pasadena, Los Angeles, California
Census??? He was a Printer/Editor.
I am not sure if he could be a cousin, etc., of my Liston G TOWNSEND.
Liston is nearby in 1910 Census, Kosoma, Pushmataha, OK. Liston is son of
John Woods TOWNSEND in Alabama & Arkansas.
Just wondering if there might be a connection....
Thanks,
Kathy

Peg,
Thank you so much for this "tid-bit". I would love a copy of the funeral card. Hope all is well with you. My USA family research has been set aside for a bit, as my dad's family from Norway is coming to visit Minnesota. I want to have that family line looking as good and complete as I am able. Thanks again

Hi, Peggy. I don't think my lineage is the same as yours, but the name
John Wesley Townsend is sure a familiar one in my family. Here is my
line: And you can see there were lots of Johns, and a few Wesleys
including my son Jedidiah Wesley and my grandson Jedidiah Wesley Jr.
My father's middle name was Wesley, and I was told it was a common
middle name in the Townsend Family.
