Barbara, you might be able to find probate records in the McKinney
courthouse. I would think that there would have to be some legal record
of her committment, if not her guardianship. I'm hoping that when i get
the numerous probate records regarding my husbands ggrandmother they
will possibly give dates and place she was committed. There are also
some citations from the county sheriff for various things which might
point to her behavior which lead to the committment, and possibly give
me some clue as to wha
I am a retired Registered Nurse and I would suggest that
you all write letters and make phone calls to the Texas State Board of
Medicine, or whatever it is called in Texas. This would be about getting
medical records and finding out where your loved one is buried. On another
message I suggested that many of you write and call your State Senator and
State Representative from your voting district. The State Attorney General
should be able to give you some answers. Remember, the s

I live in Arizona and this reminds me that there are people
buried on the grounds of the Arizona State Hospital. I would like to suggest
that you get in touch with the State Senator and/or State Representative
from your district. Things like this can be addressed to the State Attorney
General. If a number of you sent a request for help from several of these
people, they probably be very cooperative.
Good Luck!
Thank you VERY much! I am trying to get my you-know-what together so I can
leave town for the weekend, but will look into it further when I get back.

My great great grandfather is buried in the insane asylum in San Antonio.
In the 1970's I wrote a letter to them requesting information. I received a
short reply with a copy of a page that looked original (because of the
writing) with about a half dozen to a dozen pieces of information such as I
believe the day he was admitted, possibly from what town or county, his
diagnosis, and his date of death. They informed me he was buried in an
unmarked grave. I'm almost positive that they said I could ha
check with the county tax office for landowner, local genealogical society or
genealogical library (for transcript that shows who the caretaker is).

I have dealt with Terrell State Hospital with good results. There is currently
a lot of interest in the cemetery thanks to publicity in the Dallas Morning
News. I have copies of several articles they did. Some of the new
administration at the hospital was appalled when they were shown the cemetery,
and that has let to some really good activity. There is a preservation group
that is interested in placing markers at all unmarked graves (or rather, those
graves only marked with a number) , but as of yet
