My gggreat grandfather, Phillip Jacob Simon (b 11-11-1800; d 4-13-1863) and his wife, Friederika Susanna Weiss (b 11-12-1809; d 3-23-1886) sailed for America on the Barque "Straba", leaving Antwerp on September 11, 1845 and arriving in Galveston, Texas on November 20, 1845. They traveled and lived briefly in Fredericksburg, Texas, and then claimed their land promised in the Fischer-Miller Grant program, settling into the Mason County, Texas area along the Llano River.

I live in Collin County but I am not researching any of these names. The
Harringtons are one of the pioneer families in Plano and you hopefully have
found a lot on them. We have a middle school and furniture store named
after them. They are very active in community affairs.

For the past couple of weeks we have been having postings regarding
Galveston as an immigration site in the years ca. 1872-1873, when no
official records exist. There seem to be basically two theories:
1. The records were destroyed in hurricane of 1900.
2. During this period Galveston for some reason ceased to be an
official immigration point.
This latter position is the one formulated by Larry Konecny. For about
the past two years, I have been trying to find additional data on this
subject, w

I am requesting any information on any of the Sauers. My grand mother was Was Sarah Sauer who married Matthew Newman Beard in Milam County in 1904.
Thanks,

Today is Texas Independence Day, the day the early settlers in the Texas territory
declared their independence from Mexico. Although some of you may not have a
connection to these early Texans, their bravery and sacrifice became an inspiration
to people throughout the country and contributed to the western movement that
developed this great country of ours. Although Texas is often the butt of many
jokes, most Texans, both native and adopted, follow a tradition of pride and
independence.
This same pride a

When searching for photos of old land marks, you will be surprised what turns
up on ebay at times. There were old picture post cards of land marks taken
years ago and these show up on ebay for various cities. The cost is generally
just a few dollars and these old post card photos are wonderful.

Ordinarily I do not reply to this list, as I have been gone from Texas for
almost 50 years.
However, the fact that your people from Oppeln intrigued me. No doubt your
people were Polish, I deduce from the name. My people from Ratibor (now
Raciborz) in Oppeln (Silesia) also came to Texas about the same time, but
some papers in an ancestor's Pension file indicate they were Catholic Germans.
On doing more research on this family, I found that the mother (Schoen) and
four children came to New Orleans
