3. Re: [TXBELL] Our inestimable volunteers [1]
Yes, THANKS to all the volunteers who have took their time to post on the Board. Bell County is one of the best out there on the web. I have searched counties that have large cities and they can't hold a candle to Bell. Thanks for all the hard work. 6. RE: [TXBELL] Sharp (Rock Creek) Cemetery [1]
Suggest you contact the Bell County Museum... They have a guide to most of the Bell County Cemeteries. The community of Sharp is in Milam County however. Bell County roads are excellent, Milam County roads are best described as 'country'. Joe B. 7. [TXBELL] Temple Mayor's proclamation [1]
I received some great news from Patty Benoit, the manager of Hillcrest Cemetery, this week. The Mayor of Temple will be issuing a proclamation to recognize the work performed on Hillcrest Cemetery over the past few months. Mary Duke and her mother, who were the most instrumental in getting this project completed, will be attending this city council meeting next Thursday (June 19) and I am going to try my best to make the trip if I can get the day off. It will be at Temple City Hall, second floor in the Ci
8. [TXBELL] Bell Co. etc. on Ebay [1]
I just spotted some ebay auctions that some of you might be interested in, such as Bell Co. & Salado postcards, a Temple church history, and much more. I noticed the seller is in Lampasas and has got, as of now, 5 pages of items, including histories of Williamson & Burnet, Washington Co., Coleman Co., and much more. The link for the Bell Co. & Salado postcards follows--from there, just click to see the rest of the seller's items (the postcards might have only about 24 hrs. left): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB

Have you thought about taking subscriptions from folks who want to use the material? We live in AR (native Texans though!) and I subscribe to several sites to be able to do, not only family and historical research, but in my field of Classical Studies. I don't mind the cost...anywhere from $4.95 to $15.00 a month Since we don't live in Texas, I don't think writing to a legislator would help. But we know George W. 15. Re: [TXBELL] Sarah HERNDON [1]
Jackie, Sarah Herndon is buried on Donahue Road, just north of the Donahue Cemetery east of Bartlett where the community of Donahue was located. I have an article that appeared in the Temple Telegram some years ago. Mrs. Herndon was born in 1800 and died in 1863. Are we talking about the same person. The article tells the story of how she was going to visit the McKay family when she drowned. The article also tells how someone cleans the grave and puts new flowers on it every year, but no one has ever wi

20. Re: [TXBELL] Arnold Family of Texas [1]
I came across a James Arnold (Coryell County Families), born February 25, 1783 in Virginia. I don't know if this could be your James or not. He married Winifred (maiden name unknown), born September 1782. They had fourteen children, all born in Virginia. For reasons unknown this family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, by 1834. In December 1837 they moved to Glascon, Barren County, Kentucky. On March 10, 1857 several children of James and Winifred moved to Greenville, Hunt County, Texas (assumed that par

My family will be trying to go to this cemetery in the next few weeks. Can someone give me the best route to Sharp Cemetery. It looks like it is way in the country and I'm wondering how the roads are. They will be coming from Dallas. My family got lost the last time they looked for it several years ago. Believe our Elizabeth (maiden named unknown) MCBRIDE is buried there. Her age corresponds with the one listed on the website as buried there. Thanks, Penny Russell Boyer
22. [TXBELL] New Research Poll [1]
I have put a new poll on the TXBELL home page. This is to ask researchers when their ancestors first arrived in Bell County, Texas. The previous poll, which asked if researchers lived within Bell County, garnered 166 results. Pretty much throughout that poll so far, 20% of Bell County researchers said they lived in the county. Since so many of us doing Texas research are from out of state, we sometimes don't know what's going on. The following by Texana reporter Kent Biffle was in today's issue of the Dallas Morning News. Funding crunches cold eliminate the Texas State Historical Association and shut down the Handbook of Texas. For all of us who love Texas history and for any of us who have used the online Handbook, this is distressing news. Please spread the word and don't let this happen! Contract your Texas state repre
