This past Saturday, I attended the GenTech 2001 conference here in the Dallas area. Several other TXGenWeb county coordinators attended this event. We wrapped up the day with a meeting then a dinner, during which some great ideas were exchanged.
One I liked in particular came from a discussion I had with the Dallas County coordinator, Linda-Jeanne Dolby. On her site, she has specific pages for each community in her county. For each community, there is a volunteer responsible for the content of that pag
On the new Bartlett Cemetery page, there are links to both the numerical locater file and the alpha listing:

These are stored in the USGenWeb archives for Bell County:

Mary Ann, if there are corrections that need to be made to the file or the source info, let me know and I can inform our archives rep to adjust this. We certainly want the material to reflect what the submitter wishes it to.
And as I
Kim, the Val Verde Cemetery listing (Copied Aug. 10, 1971 by Arthur F. McLean and John A. Barton) was submitted to our archives by Laurel Burns in 1999:

According to the file, Val Verde Cemetery is 8 miles east of Holland on FM 2268 at Val Verde Baptist Church. Per the US Geological Survey database, Val Verde Church is just across the Milam County border:

Actually, it's just a start. I wanted to set up a page that reciprocates the great crosslinks West Bell County Genealogical Society has set up to us from their 1860 census index page

Keep in mind that that while the website Penny suggested has a useful list
of burials at North Belton, I believe it is only partial. My impression is
that North Belton Cemetery is much larger. Thanks to Penny for posting the
link, since it may contain names useful to some people.

Jane, I am researching a John Rhoten Hill that came to TX, Hood co from
Buncomb co NC . He married Rutha Jane Lusk in Madison in 185... Can't
think offhand. John Rhoten was a Methodist missionary to the Indians
west of Ashville, NC, started the first Methodist church in Granbury ,
Hood co TX 1871. Around 1890 the Hills went to McClain co OK where he
ministered there .
It is said his mother was a Rhoten. Would you possibly have any Hill
connections? Another researcher and I have been at this a very long tim
Jody, you are so right about the Scrapbook. I first read it about 2 years ago--and it is the reason that I know that my HARLING family are buried in North Belton Cemetery. Nannie's history is fascinating, and oh, don't you wish we could tell her what a great thing she did when she pasted all those clippings, obits, announcements, etc. in those old catalogue pages!

FYI, some parts of Rootsweb remain unavailable. In particular, GenConnect
is not up for posting queries, deeds, etc. I assume it will be back online
soon.

The webpage for McCann Cemetery has now been updated. Thanks to Dianne
Ramsey for providing these pictures. McCann Cemetery is just across the
county line from Rogers in Milam County, but apparently was in Bell County
before a line shift. Perhaps Dianne will fill everyone in on the recent
activity at McCann. (hint hint!)

According to the BellNet database of cemeteries, there is a Herrington
Cemetery in Harker Heights on Cedar Knob Road, 2.5 miles from the FM 2410
turnoff. USGS does not have coordinates for it and we don't yet have a
transcription online. Perhaps one day we can gather some volunteers to take
an inventory of that one, among others. Maybe next time you drive by, you
can get a photograph of the entrance and I will attempt to put up a page for
it.
Glad to hear the good news about Mountain View Cemetery. Al

GenConnect is the service who runs our web-based message boards. When you
go to our main page, you will find links (represented by the colorful puzzle
pieces) for queries, bible records, deeds, biographies and other postings.
Many of the county sites on USGenWeb use GenConnect because of it is easy
for users to understand and efficient for coordinators to maintain. For
some hints and tips on using GenConnect message boards, see:

Charlotte,
Dorothy and I have visited the Herrington cemeter. Did a complete inventory
of it about 2 years ago. It is located on 3481 about 3 miles south of the
intersection where the high school is. It is about a quarter mile off the
road. You can see it when you drive by (slowly). There were 21 graves in
it at the time we inventoried it and it is still in use. The burials were
between 1903 and 1995. Oldest person interred there was 99 years old.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I will be making another trip to Bell County
next weekend. During my trip, I wil be photographing more cemeteries, this

East Belton Cemetery
Hill Cemetery
North Belton Cemetery
South Belton Cemetery
TEMPLE
Evergreen Cemetery (AKA New Hope)
Hillcrest Cemetery
Hodge Cemetery
Lancaster Cemetery
