"Reuben Fletcher, of Breathitt County, is the happy father of 21
children, and has never had but one wife, who is still living.
Having run out of names to distinguish so many, the parents have
named the three younger children, respectively, Nineteen, Twenty,

Tracing a surname and the family who used it is one of the most
fascinating pursuits in genealogy. Your surname can be a clue to
your paternal ethnic origins, assuming it has been a hereditary
one for some time. However, because so many of our names have
been "Americanized" through the years, there are many Americans
bearing British-sounding names whose ancestors never set

I have just called my Senator Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio in his Austin
office and talked to a staff member, as well as talking to Senator
Zaffirini'' office.
At 7pm they still have people in the office. So look up your Senator's
number in Austin and call them now!!
I have been told by a few people that this bill might not even be read on
the Senate Floor.
Both Senator's offices advised me that THAT WOULD NOT HAPPEN. The BILL HAS
TO BE READ!!
I certainly hope so.
We'll have to wait and see what happ

I was going to write a tongue-in-cheek article about a new Web
site that Robert Stauffer pointed out to me. The Unclaimed Persons
Online service sounded humorous at first, but as I read about it,
I realized that it has a very serious intent. The information
provided could be valuable to anyone seeking
Here is the text of an article in today's Salt Lake City newspaper. It
mentions that familysearch.org will be officially launched at press
confereneces in Washington and Salt Lake City this Monday. This confirms
rumors that were floating around the FHL this past week. On Thursday, the
library had posted notices that the second floor of the FHL would be closed
to the public on Monday morning for a special event, but most staff members
had professed to not know what the special event was.

On Wednesday morning, May 12th (today) the
Senate Human Services Committee voted out favorably the substitute bill
sponsored by Senator Judy Zaffirini. It clearly states that Summary Indexes
(only name, date and event-place) are Open Records. Also, that the Bill is

HB 836, the new Engrossed Version, makes no significant changes in the
existing legislation, except (1) to clear up whether the existing law also
applies to "local registration officials also. There evidently was some
confusion among a few Texas Counties as to whether the existing law also
applied to them, and not just to the State Bureau of Vital Statistics. And,
(2) it does add birth and death indexes. But have you seen one. It only
tells you that the person you are looking for was born or died, and gi
