1. [TXCASS-L] Something Texas Researchers Might be Interested In [1]
I just received my Genealogy Bulletin from Heritage Quest and thought I would pass this little tid bit along for all to see. We all know Texas became a state in 1845 so the first federal census was in 1850 right? Wrong There was Miller County Arkansas Territory enumerated in 1820 and again in 1830 which was within an area that is now part of North Eastern Texas. The 1820 census was taken for people living on both the north and south sides of the Red River, all within Texas and part of present day Oklahoma

12. [TXCASS-L] Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness [1]
Fellow list members, Below is a new site, which I think is wonderful and I thought you might want to be part of it. Briefly it is a site for gaining someone to do research in counties over the states, and you do research ONCE per month for someone and they repay it by doing some research for someone else. Take a look, if this sounds interesting to you. Jean Gilley -------------- Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http:www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/genkin.htm

18. [TXCASS-L] Cornetts from Harris Co., GA [1]
There are several Cornett families in Cass County. I am searching for information on two Cornett brothers who left Georgia, Harris County, about 1905 and moved to Cass Co., TX, where both were enumerated in 1910. By 1920, Mattie Culpeper Cornett, widow of Abb or Babby Cornett, was still in Cass County, TX. Have Cass County marriages been published? What about cemetery records? Could someone check them for me if so? I would be most grateful. I am writing from Oxford, England, and so am a long way away

Actually, the border around TX wasn't settled until after the Mexican War in 1846. Until then, the Neutral Strip flourished. That was along the LA-TX border. The government was near Nachitoches LA where the Federal government tried to keep peace. Records for that era can still be found at the courthouse there. Until that War, Mexico claimed nearly to Canada. One of the settlers of Wavell's Colony was Daniel McKinney, son of old Daniel who died in Red River Co TX. Nephew of Collin McKinney. Daniel married

23. [TXCASS-L] [AGS-L] Miller County, Arkansas Territory [1]
From: RWHitzman@aol.com To: AGS-L@rootsweb.com I have several sources on early Miller County settlers (before 1835), if anyone is researching this area. Permanent white settlement took place in the area as early as 1815. The U.S. government vacillated for several years during early settlement as to whether this area would be ceded to the Indians. The settlers were chased south of the Red River around 1818, later they were required to move north of the Red River. Much of old Miller County was included in
