5. Cargill/Pruitt/Jackson [1]
Hello, I know that some on the Coryell County List have connection to Cargill, Pruitt (Pruett) and Jackson families, Coryell county and back. Paty Myers is doing a reprint of her book "Cargill/Cargile/Cargal of the South and Southwest" (1997). The new book will be out sometime this summer. If you did not get your family in the first edition you may want to be included in the new edition. Paty has done a great job. She is a very good researcher. Just thought I would let you know. Cassie

9. Re: Women Homesteaders in Coryell County [1]
Pat, Coryell County was created in 1854 from Bell County. In the 1850 census those people who were living here were enumerated as Bell County. In 1840 even Bell County had not been created and all of this area was part of Milam County. So, land grants given in the early days of Texas would have been in Milam County. Graves were reburied where the families requested. There are a large number of them in Restland here in Gatesville. I do not find tombstones in Coryell County for the Sheltons you seek. And the courthouse in Milam County burned about 1873. Most all records were lost except the first Deed Book. That book was at the State Tax Office in Austin being used for tax purposes. Cassie
