Dear List Members, I found this article to be very interesting and informative as to the route taken by our ancestors while coming west from Georgia and NC.

Hello,
I know that some on the Coryell County List have connection to Cargill,
Pruitt (Pruett) and Jackson families, Coryell county and back.
Paty Myers is doing a reprint of her book "Cargill/Cargile/Cargal of the
South and Southwest" (1997). The new book will be out sometime this summer.
If you did not get your family in the first edition you may want to be
included in the new edition. Paty has done a great job. She is a very good
researcher.
Just thought I would let you know.

Pat, Coryell County was created in 1854 from Bell County. In the 1850
census those people who were living here were enumerated as Bell County. In
1840 even Bell County had not been created and all of this area was part of
Milam County. So, land grants given in the early days of Texas would have
been in Milam County.

Does anyone have any information about the Gay Lady Saloon or the Ruby
Saloon that operated in Gatesville in the late 1800's? If you know of
some good sources, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I would be
especially interested in pictures of interior or exterior.

And the courthouse in Milam County burned about 1873. Most all records were
lost except the first Deed Book. That book was at the State Tax Office in
Austin being used for tax purposes.

Dear List Members,
There is now a place to enter family group sheets into the Archives. The link is
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/grpsheet.htm
This form may be downloaded and filled in and attached to e-mail sent to the address given. Or form may be filled out on line and submitted. It is my understanding that these may be searched. The more of us who enter group sheets the better results we will have.

I have a copy of a page from an unknown book. It has a list of women
homesteaders in Coryell County. It says this info is from the book
"Claiming Their Land: Women Homesteaders in Texas" by Florence C. Gould and
Patricia N. Pando.
It says the list is from Appendix B, Women Claimants 1870-1898.
