Do you know the church affiliation of Powers Chapel? Somehow I believe it
might have been Methodist. I wondered if there might be a church history
and also where the records were eventually stored when the church ceased to
function. I feel confident that many of my family members attended that
church.

I think everyone should know that the listing on the Powers Chapel
website is not all inclusive. I recently spent several hours there on a
Saturday. I too discovered relatives that were not listed and that I
did not know of. I took pictures of the grave markers and sent them to

I would encourage anyone that has information to send it to Kay. She is
quite responsive.
Thanks.

Phyllils,
I remember that my aunt always asked for a nurse, Mrs. Bull, to be her
nurse, when my aunt had to go to the hospital in Marlin. I vaguely remember
the nurse, but don't know anything about her.

Thanks. All good ideas. I've tried the Marlin newspaper archives without
success. I think the next step is to see if I can get the marriage record

I hope I am not repeating something already shared here.
According to a piece included in "Powers Chapel Gleanings... Falls
County, Texas by Pauline Ray Brooks" (1971) entitled "History of Powers
Chapel... as related by Coleman Asbury", it was a Methodist Church and "The
old log church in 1870 must have been at least twenty years old. If so,
then it was built between 1845-1850. Those dates were about the time Powers
Chapel was organized."

That's interesting. There is information on Sneed on the Robertson County,
Texas Gen Web site. Also in A HISTORY OF ROBERTSON COUNTY, TEXAS by Baker.
The Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert was named for him. I went to
school with one of his descendants, and his grandmother lived near me,
across the street from the park.
The Sneed family land is in Milam county, and the cemetery where the circuit
rider Sneed is buried.
I believe they came from Tennessee, or, at least, some of that family did.
