There are a bunch in Longview ---------if you want I will list them for you
also.
Yeah, Henry's is something else. Nope it hasn't been there a hundred years,
just looks like it. It is pretty smokey-----but the food is good.
I would be interested to know if anyone has any information on the
surname Gibson.
My grandmother's sister, Sarah Emaline Gentry married George Gibson in
Longview, Gregg County, TX on 26 August 1888.
I have never been able to find any information on this family. I can
remember my grandmother received letters from her, however I was too
small to get any further info.
Would appreciate any help with this family.

Barbara,
Yes, Texas is a community property state. I can't imagine the state
giving anything to his sister's husband's children though. Are you sure
he did not leave a will that named all these people? Normally if the
state says who it goes to, it is only spouse and children. But if some
of them filed a suit for a share, I guess a judge could give it to who
ever he felt like had a legitimate claim. Goodness, I am not a lawyer
but it sure sounds to me like they stretched it a little thin by

Allen Gilliaim and family moved to Rusk Co in 1951. That part of Rusk
County became Gregg Co.
Do you have any birth records for his children born there?
Is there any other information available in Gregg County for this area at
that time. He was a Baptist preacher at Jamestown in Smith County and
other places.
Thanks.

I've been looking for information on my Grandfather and Great-grandfather
for two years now. Seems that there isn't much for Gregg Co on the
Internet. So I appreciate any assistance I can get. Oh, and I'd like to
say thanks and Welcome to the new Coordinators.

This message is for Elaine and Sharon. My uncle has been very involved in
recording the cemeteries in Gregg and Upshur Counties. He might be
interested in helping you if you let me know what all you have and have not
done. In particular, Old Bethlehem Cemetery, Old East Mountain which borders
on Gregg and Upshur as well as Union Grove and the old Phillips Cemetery,
which by the way, has some stones outside the fence which were from the
African Americans and we have not been able to identify. Suppo

i agree you should put down the ethnic groups, but just because a person
is black does not make him African American. He could be from any European
country or from one of the islands or even a hispanic country or South

Whether he was a slave, free or a scholor. Every nation has dark and light

Cheryl,
The Texas State Library and Archives in Austin is a wonderful resource. Am not sure if there is a charge to do look ups but to give an example: Confederate
Pension Records the charge for the papers is ten cents a page! The Library section has a alphabetical year by year index to deaths in the state. If you have
approximate dates this would be an excellent place to start.

Oh Yeah, Medlins in Gladewater? Who are they, do you have a list?
Gladewater is where my grandparents lived. So sad, their house is falling
down and we hated to see that happen. They were some of the very first
people there. Lots of markers relating to the Phillips family around town.
My dad grew up there and my mother grew up in East Mountain. Small world

there is anything in 1931 as we had been told mother' smother, Alma died
before 1930 but some people believe she died in 1931. I am trying to
establish a death date. Thank you and I hope I am clear on this email stuff

Cami, have you ever talked with a Valencia smotherman in East Mountain? She

I had found a book of probate cases and looked for everyone's lookup

Dear Elaine
Your question is quite appropriate. I am African American and realize that
my grand father and mother and gg grand parents would be buried in a
'colored' cemetery. I appreciate all that you are doing for me and by no
means am I offended or even have the slightest problem with your query.
Thanks again for your dedication

Earlene,
Are you sure these children are actually his? That would account for
them saying their father was born in NJ and he says he was born in Ak.
Otherwise I would guess that it was just and error in reading the
lines....very easy to do!
