3. [TXREDRIV-L] Roll Call [1]
I have several family lines in the Red River/McCurtain County OK area. They went back and forth. My names in Red River are Phillips, Hoover, Holloway, and Presley that are closely connected. My g-aunt Mary Albert "Tine" Phillips was probably my last living relative there. She passed away in 1964. She was married 3 times. One husband, Calip Leonard Presley died in 1938. I don't know the order of her husbands. She was unmarried in 1962, the last time I saw her. Other names that aren't so closely relate

I know of some Cagles buried in Lane's Chapel cemetery south of Clarksville http://www.rootsweb.com/~txredriv/lanes.html The submitter's name is Earl D Cagle Sr. There is an email address, but it's no good. I am related to the William b 1853 and Louisa Risenhoover b 1854. I'm probably related to the rest of them but don't know the relations ship. William & Louisa probably both born and married in MO. They lived in Oregon Co, MO prior to Texas. There was also a Matthew Cagle in Oregon County that my

8. [TXREDRIV-L] Is Red River County still dry? [1]
Is Red River County still dry? My Cousin Harold Sharp in Idabel, made quite a bit of money off the citizens of Red River County during the dry years. He sold beer out of a trailer that set on the east side of the road just north of the Red River Bridge. He won an award from Coors beer one year for selling the most beer of any retail outlet in Oklahoma. He said that on Friday and Saturday nights, the cars were backed up across the bridge. He later opened a night club across the road. After he ended up

A site for some history of Red River County around the Civil War, from the book "Forty Seven Years". http://gen.1starnet.com/civilwar/chapt17.htm It speaks of shortages and hardships. Mentions civil war encounters and battles between gunboats. Lots of mention of the Wrights and Daniels. Mentions Jim Clark. Names from the Lamar Cavalry. Charliene, You cleared at least one thing up for me. I see now that my dad abbrivated Buchanan to Buc on the plot map of Concord. I though Buc was a nick name, but not so as you pointed out. He had the name Talley in the square for Lillie, but now I see he was listing her maiden name. Do your records show L.L. and Emily(EMMA) dying on the exactly the same day as my dad has plotted . If so, I wonder why. Do you know? Seems like now would be a good time to ask you (and others) to put on your calen

I don't know about Clarksville hotels but the last time my sister-in-law checked the hotels in Cleburne, TX she gave us "smell ratings" too. But if there is one with a big "hole-in-the-wall" there should be lots of fresh air in Clarksville. Good luck. 18. [TXREDRIV-L] Questions about moving to Clarksville [0.98161]
To Sharon and All, Sam asked about Clarksville area concerning his family considering moving there. I sent a reply to him directly. First I e-mailed him and asked him some questions as to what he and his wife (excuse me, I just remembered Sam refered to her husband. So I guess Sam is a she) are looking for. Sam replyed. I told them Pros and I told them Cons. Then I mentioned other possibilities in the area and even out of the area depending on their needs, desires and wants. With out going

I understand there was once a huge log jam in the river which apparently deepened/or widened? it enough for river traffic into Jefferson. I don't think there was much river traffic above there, except perhaps locally. I'm not an expert on that subject but understand the log jam was finally removed and the town of Jefferson became a backwater when they lost their port business and did not vote to let the train come through there. Somehow, it is ironic that the last time I stayed in Jefferson in a B&B I hear

21. [TXREDRIV-L] Power Up [0.98161]
Just got power back at my home today about 3 p.m. after losing it Monday about noon. Most phones out until yesterday. Finally able to call Clarksville today. I just got on line a few minutes ago and read some of the e-mails about the ice storm in Clarksville and area. I have been told that C'ville was hit harder than Paris and maybe Texarkana worse than it. Paris is in bad shape, but it must not be as bad as C'ville. Paris probably has 90% of the trees with major damage. Monday night looked like a

Pat, Just tidbits. I am in touch with Dale Roberts in AZ. His father is Aubrey that went to grade school in Negley. Aubrey is a life time friend of my father and they still call each other from time to time at the age of 90. Dale is on this board. The family of Charlie Roberts is buried at Concord Cemetery where many of my Giddens ancestors are buried. Hello all, "Roll call" .....makes me feel like I am in school again. "Present" he he he. The lines I am researching are: ADAMS and COKER. Related lines are CAUDLE, ALSOBROOK and KING. All from the Manchester, RR Co. area. And, since I am usually pretty quiet on here, I'll just take the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me along in my research. THANKS!! Connie Somerville lives between Detroit and Clarksville on the "new" hwy 82 where the stagecoach line ran. Her husband "Somerville" (forget first name) family has owned the land for over 150 years. This is where the old Robbinsville was located before is faded after the new railroad was placed north which is were Bagwell was then established. Connie and her husband live just west of the picnic area on the hill about 500 yards north of the Hwy. Connie's maiden name is Anderson. Connie has a nick name b
25. [TXREDRIV-L] Questions about Clarksville [0.98161]
I'll try to answer some of your questions about Red River county. There is a fairly large modern hospital in Clarksville and several medical doctors, (general practitioners). In Paris, about 30 miles away, there are two hospitals, specialists, obstetrics services, dialysis, open heart surgery, and just about anything that can be found in larger cities such as Dallas. Clarksville has not had an obstetrics unit in its hospital for many years and most of the babies are born at Paris. (Except for a couple t
