1. [TXREDRIV-L] King of the Cowboys [1]
Avalon talk reminds me of when I was probably abou 6-7 yrs old (around 1948. The way I remember it there was a nation wide election by kids going to the movie (show) and voting for their choice to be King of the Cowboys. I was a Gene Autry man (boy) but Roy Rogers won the title, King of the Cowbays. Does this sound right to anyone else. I must admit this I did collect the Roger Rogers badges out of Post Rasin Bran around 1952 when we live in Weimar, Tx. I would open the ceral box from the bot

Jim When we kids it used to cost us 20 Cents to get in the Avalon and if I remember popcorn was 15 cents and candy was 25 cents. Poor Mother would stand up there and iron for the public all week..and then we would blow it on saturday... LOL Evelyn and Billy remember the other movie house there too. I dont recall it..Must be cause I am so young huh...I have to harrass Evelyn every chance I get...she is going to whip my hinney when she sees me again.. I remember when we got our first TV and all the kids
3. [TXREDRIV-L] TXREDRIV-L Malts and Memories [1]
Hi, Charliene Miller Wright, my 4th cousin, on my Talley side suggested that I subscribe to the R R Co List. I've only been "huntin" for about 4 months. I found Charliene on-line when I was looking at the RR marriage list and saw that she had reported some Talley info, so of course I had to e-mail her. Thank goodness she responded and took me under her wing. She and her Buchanan cousin came thru Waco on Monday on their way south and we met at the library and they spent the night with me. Isn't t
4. Re: [TXREDRIV-L] Champion Boxer Billy Mitchell [1]
Jim I will let Evelyn elaborate on Billy's boxing days, even though she is older than me..Ha ha ( like I wont be 50 tomorrow) she has a much better memory for those things than me. I do have a really good pic of him right after his match..He was one tough hombre though.. I think he won it two years in a row,,but I cant remember. The frozen malts talk has sure made me want one.We did stop by there last year ( all of girls did )and got us a malt at the 7 eleven, They were good but just not the same fin

I can relate to that. I have an antique spare B/R, Charliene's cousin spent the night in it, and it's filled with my ancestors. By the way, if you have a "Dollar Store" close to you, they have the greatest 8x10 and 5x7 picture frames for $1.00 and $3.00. Really pretty and antique looking or modern. That's where I buy all my frames. Carol
7. Re: [TXREDRIV-L] Memories--Eddie// Dog Trot House [1]

8. [TXREDRIV-L] Re: TXREDRIV-D Digest V01 #68 [1]
Lisa, my cousin Bertha Medlin was married to a man last name Fogg. There was a child born named William. He would have been 14 in 1918. Do you have any student named Fogg in the photo? If so I sure would like a look. Thanks. Sue in Tucson, AZ Suzanne ("Sue") Knudsen
9. [TXREDRIV-L] Houses [1]
TRM (That Reminds Me). When all us boys on Rose Hill use to rabbit hunt in he woods southwest of Clarksville between the old Bogota hwy and Hwy 37, there was one area out in the middle of a mostly cleared area that we called "The Rose Bushes". It was a mass of rose bushes the shape and size of a house. That is the only real evidence a house was ever there. Not road etc. We all figure the rose bushes were all around the house at some point, something happened to to house and over the years the c

Hey, I thought this was a genealogical list? :-) I would love to see more of this, as it was why I subscribed. Not that I don't love all the stories, because I very much do. I just would love to also hear more about what genealogical lines people are working on. Marcia researching: REED, ROBINSON, PAIN, COBEN and BARNETT

Sharon, with regard to the old newspaper microfilm project. Will it ever be in the interlibrary loan as I am in Tucson, AZ and would not ever be able to go thru the older newspapers from around 1890 to 1940 say. It is a wonderful project you are doing and wish I were there to help. I so appreciate the efforts from afar. Suzanne ("Sue") Knudsen

Carol, you bet! I had a red 1984 Mustang SVO (the second fastest production car made that year); called it Rowdy, after Clint Eastwood's character in the TV show Rawhide. It's name should have been The Money Pit. I also had a 4X4 Jeep I called The Range Rider, after my favorite TV cowboy. Hi Vivi, I'm doing some research on the Ragsdill family. The Edwards sisters married the Ragsdill brothers and all of them are buried at Bogata Cemetery.I'm researching the Edwards sisters and their parents and siblings. Do you know anything about them? Was/Is William Jack Ragsdill your dad? Did he marry a woman with the last name of Longe? What is your Uncle Buddy's first name? You said Sarah Ragsdill is your mom, is her maiden name Ward? If so, she has sure helped me out alot with the Ward family My gre

20. [TXREDRIV-L] a sunday at home in clarksville [1]
I always loved Sundays at my gparents'.After the meal all the food would be left on the table and a tablecloth would be placed over it to keep flies off .The ladies would go to one room and visit while putting puzzles together on card tables. In another the men would be smoking and playing 42.We kids were told to go outside and play, and thats when the fun started.we would play some of the games we have all related to but we were also creative.Gdaddy had a big ole cat he called "Baby Kitty".This kitty probabl

Say a pray for the Hooks Hornets before they play Clarksville Blue Tigers. (Not sure when they added the "Blue"). Clarksville has been hot in basketball for the last 10 to 15 years with Coach Carlile (spell), winning state twice. They have won all there district games so far this year. Has sort of put football in the back seat at Clarksville to my dismay. Anyway, good luck, you will need it. They have five loses this year, but all to larger school. Thare are 1 and 1 with Paris. 25. [TXREDRIV-L] Old Newspapres [1]
One of the major goals of the Red River County Genealogical Society this year has been to collect and preserve as many old newspapers as we can. Here is what is new and available on microfilm in our library. The Detroit News- Herald - 1928 to 1936 and 1941 to 1956. The Clarksville Times - Jan 21, 1908 to Oct-25-1910. These had not been previously microfilmed and were really falling apart. The Deport Times - 1911 through 1924. Deport is in Lamar County but is so near the Red River Co. line that their p
