If I'm not mistaken, there is a Rakowitz buried in the "Richter" family
cemetery at the corner of County Roads 417 and 332. One can see the
tombstone from the road. There's a chain link fence around the cemetery,
but I can check from the road next time I'm out.
This is more in the Sutherland Springs, Stockdale area.

Thanks JoDee. B Isn't it funny how, when you have a name or image in your head, suddenly you see those things all around you? B I appreciate the link, so much. B I wish I were there to investigate in person.
Happy New Year,

There is an article in today's "Wilson County News" about an historical
marker ceremony this coming Saturday, Dec. 15, 10:30 a.m., at the Beall
Cemetery (intersection of FM 1346 and Cemetery Lane, between La Vernia and
St. Hedwig). The cemetery is 153 years old, the first burial having been
William Henry Beall in 1854.

Finally remembered her first name, I went to high school with Shirley
Rakowitz! Now y'all have me going on this.
In the 1880 census there were several families from Poland in Bexar County.
I don't remember how far Bexar County extended then, was Wilson County part
of it?

Pelagia Rakowitz 31
Marion Rakowitz 13
John Rakowitz 10
Stephen Rakowitz 7

Hello,
I had intended to try and attend this ceremony, but was stuck in Harlingen, Texas on a job and am at this time in the airport on the way to my next job near Tulsa, Oklahoma.
If anyone can send information about this, including photos, I will post it on the Wilson County USGenWeb page as well as my Beall family website.
(At this time it does not appear that this Beall family is directly connected to my own, but I will post it to my Beall pages anyway)
Thanks,
Edward

The Wilson County News is top-notch, and very interested in history and good
news, I'm sure they will run a story on the ceremony. ;-)

Well, we should have known that Shirley Grammer would have already
transcribed this cemetery:

Thank you, Shirley, and Happy New Year, y'all!!

Hi Nan -
Thank you for your message.
How would one find out if there are any Gorzells, Dyllas, Winklers,
Rakowitzes in that cemetery? I'm an Atlanta resident, born in Galveston, of
ancestors who came from LaVernia/St. Hedwig. A number of my folks were buried at the
Annunciation cemetery and I even understand my G grandfather is in an
unmarked grave there! (and I know just about where).
Many thanks for your message.

Wilson County was created, I believe, early in 1860, but it was still included with Bexar in the 1860 census. It stands alone beginning in the 1870 census.

I believe the story only mentioned Bealls. We can hope for a story next week, covering the ceremony. If not, it's not far from my house. I can go over there and report back to the list, but it may be after the holidays (every year I say I'm going to be ready before December so I don't spend every spare second of the month finishing up. Every year I find I've lied).
