2. [TSL] Where do I Begin? [1]
Hello all knowing ship listservers, I have been reading the banter that you all have for about a week. I joined in hopes that I would be able to learn new ways to find how my ancestors got here. While I have learned a vast amount of information, I still do not really know how to go about finding their ship, ports, etc. Here is the information that I do know about them. They are German-Russians and their passports are written in Russian and French, the date written in the passports is March 19, 191

4. Re: [TSL] SS City of Montreal - Name of Captains [1]
Hello Tor, Montreal awarded a gold headed cane to the first ocean going ship to arrive after the river opened in spring. I have a book published by the Port of Montreal which gives the name of the recipient ship for each year, but the CITY OF MONTREAL isn't among the names. However, the first award in about 1840 was a top hat which was replaced by a gold headed cane some 40 years later in about 1880. Since 1970, now that the St. Lawrence is open all year round, the cane is awarded to the first ship to arri

Hello Tonya. This vessel is not listed in the Lloyd's Register. However, in the book "Queens of the Western Ocean" by Carl C. Hi All, I have located the ship my great grandfather arrived on from Ireland, the SS Tripoli. A search of the archives and a Google search have turned up very little info about the vessel. Would anyone know where I might find a history, registration details and/or photo? The list has been invaluable in the past. Many thanks for your time! Sean
10. [TSL] New York to Australia, 1852 and 1853 [1]
, Most posts deal with emigration from Europe to North America and to other places. However there was an emigrant boom from North America to Australia, after the discovery of gold in Victoria in 1851. Here is a story of one shipload who ran into trouble. New York Daily Times, May 2, 1853 (microfilm) FROM NEW-YORK TO AUSTRALIA - The ship Nimrod sailed from this port on yesterday morning for Australia. 18. [TSL] Re: 1882 [1]
Hello Elaine, If your ancestors arrived in New York they would more likely be listed in Russians to America rather than Germans to America, but you might want to check both. For information see... Resources for Finding New York Passenger Lists 1847-1897 (the Unindexed Years) http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/ny1847.html If they arrived at a port other than New York see... Finding Passenger Lists 1820-1940s (arrivals at US Ports) http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/passengers.html Good luck with your search.
