1. [UK-1901-CENSUS] Index quirks [1]
I have just come across some variations in name order which may be of interest Name entered by enumerator with surname first as *Makepeace William Henry* Indexed as First: Henry, Midde: William, Surname: Makepeace All names on this page are thus, and my family all have the middle name indexed as first. On a later page though most names were in the conventional order *Makepeace John* was correctly reversed in the index . Scope for error here. Elsewhere *Lucy Makepeace Bird* is indexed as First: Lucy Surna

4. Re: [UK-1901-CENSUS] Voucher availability [1]
Hi all, Further to Tom's remarks, surely we are trusting anyone when we give them our credit card in a restaurant, etc. Also, hopefully we check the individual items on our monthly statements to make sure they are ours, and not someone else's (mistakes do happen). While this is not 100% genealogy, I, like Tom, use my card often with no worries. Yes, it would be nice if there was a secure site, but, in the meantime it is usually easier, and not as costly for us outside of the UK to use a credit card if poss
5. [UK-1901-CENSUS] Vouchers v credit card [1]
My thanks to all those who responded to my gripes, about voucher availability online, with suggestions on obtaining vouchers by credit card purchase online. What I was really grizzling about (but didn't express clearly) was that the vouchers are not available for immediate pucrhase *from PRO* online. If they *were* available online from PRO, then that would give a much higher profile to the inconsistency between the two methods of subscribing online to the service. One would be able to puchase a voucher

I am not sure what you are looking for: if the person was in England or Wales on Census day 1901, he/she should be on the Census. Again non gen, but do you know there are little devices that a waiter, or anyone not being observed with your card, can swipe your card and get the details for copies to be made. I have an experience with card problems, which fortunately the bank did not hold me responsible for, the sum of $4000. That decided me that I would never have a debit card. If anyone is interested in the story email me privately, and I will make up a message to send. Brian Mail scanned by Norton 2003 updated ----- Original Message

16. [UK-1901-CENSUS] A VERY BIG THANK YOU. [1]
A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO Ken KNOTT, who today has had solid brick walls crashing down with his posting about mine ref. SS MAPLECOURT first Canadian Ship to be sunk in WWII. I have now found out what truly happened to my father's brother. Very tragic as all wars are, he has no know grave. So close to Preston England, so close to his family roots In Derbyshire. Also grateful Thanks to Freda Harte for all the efforts and look ups done for me to find William SHAWs wife and family. To Valerie Jones who st

It isn't safe to send credit card numbers in an email. Otherwise you have to live in Melbourne and turn up in person. 20. [UK-1901-CENSUS] 1901 census, Llandudno: M. Massey, Lodger, single, 33, Nurserman, born Ruabon DEN [1]
I have found the above on RG13/5289 F101 p82, correctly indexed from the enumerator's sheet, but am reluctant to accept it at face value, because in at least two sheets, it is the only entry without a full first name. I am hoping it is my long lost great uncle William Arthur Massey, as the entry is correct in all other respects. The initial definitely looks like the writewr's "M" although a scribbled "W" can look similar, there is no "W" for comparison. Thehouseholder's name looks like Halstrap, age 52,

I would be quite happy for the charge to be deducted immediately (as it would be if I bought vouchers) and have a credit available to use in the same way as for vouchers... perhaps over a 3 month, 6 month or 1 year period depending on the amount
