Dear Listers,
Where in Caerwent, and what exactly was the Red House ? Can I get a picture of it?
My involvement has arisen because my Great Grandfather ,George Thompson Pratten and his wife, Jane and family came over from Somerset about 1885 and settled in Caerwent, where his large family of girls all grew up. My grandmother, Agnes Ada Florence Isitt(b.1879,d.1955) was one of these, another married daughter was Ethel Kate Nouse of Portskewett (b.1877), and yet another was Mary Jane Adams (b.1863) of Caldic
Dear Listers,
Correction!
Ethel Kate Pratten married Thomas House in Caerwent in 1898 and they were living in Portskewett in 1906, when her mother died. Are any of her descendants living around the area today?
Where was the Red House in Caerwent, and what sort of place was it ?
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Newbury
Dear Listers,
George Thompson Pratten and his wife Jane from Frome had lived at the Red House in Caerwent since 1885 and brought up about six of their ten children there. About December 1906 Jane died and George followed her in the New year of 1907
Their eldest daughter, born 1863, whose married name was Mary Jane Adams and came from West End Caldicottl was present at the death of her father, while the much younger Ethel Kate House, born 1887, came from Farmers' Cottages, Portskewett when her mother lay dyi

Can anyone please help me to locate information about my great-grandmother's
husband, who was believed to have come from Caerwent.
My great-grandmother, Elizabeth Winter, who was born in Caldicot in 1872
gave birth to my grandfather William Henry Winter in May 1891 while unmarried.
In the 4th quarter of 1892 she married George Morris at St Mary's Church
Caldicot. George Morris is believed to have come from Caerwent but I can't find
anything about him, only his marriage to my great-grandmother
Dear Mike John,
In searhing for the Red House, Caerwent I have discovered from the Tithe map
of 1844, about fifty years too early for my purpose, ideally, that Plots
2,3,and 4 were situated in the extreme south of the Parish of Caerwent,
sandwiched between the Parish of Caldicott and the Parish of Portskewett.
This is shown on the first part of the map one comes to. In the parent
directory of the Tythes Schedule and on attachment 00443 ,the Red
House Grounds and Gardens appear to belong to( ? )Thomas
Looking for any info including parents on Albert James Ford and Doreen
Jessie Pinnell both born circa 1923 in Wales. Pinnell from Cardiff.
Thanks

Hello,
For those interested in the Welsh immigrant-to- America experience, I
HIGHLY recommend this book. I have the original Welsh edition and the
first English edition, but this new on will be even better, as Martha
Davies corrected a lot of translation errors and has fully indexed
this one! I have already pre-ordered 6 copies! Also, please note that
the free shipping on orders received before Oct. 1 includes shipping
overseas!
I am not receiving compensation of any kind for this endorsement-it i
Dear Listers,
David Rendel or Randal Morgan was 15 years of age when he left Wales and settled in America, around 1770-7. David was therefore born c.1755-1762.
I do not know where in Wales he was born and I am not looking for his American descendants.
I am looking for where he came from in Wales and his family members. In particular I am looking for members of his family that moved from Wales into Worcestershire, England.
I am looking for this information because I have a

He settled in Conneticut. Did he have family there? He was not a convict.

I finally found a small needle in a huge haystack!
Since the 1970's I have been searching for a document that would give
my Grandmother Miller's hand written list of Dodd family names that show
the Dodd's come from Caerwent,Wales some credibility - This piece of
information that I found is the closest I have ever been to proving the
Dodds actually lived in Caerwent, Wales. Thomas Dodd was born 1744 - so
he would be the proper age to be signing witness to a wedding in 1781.
(note this Thomas Dodd born 1744
Looking for all Learys & O'Learys listed in census years between 1831 & 1891.
Can anyone help? This is a re-search of my research of Wales to see if I

Hi All
I have just started a petition to get Gwent records office to abolish this
ridiculous new charge they have introduced, on the use of personal cameras.
http://www.petitiononline.com/brychan/petition.html I have also contacted
all the M.P's & A.M's for Gwent who have assured me they would look in to
the matter and have also asked for a copy of the minutes of the meeting
where the decision was made.
I have also found out that 1 if not 2 representatives of the Gwent family
history society was at this m
Hi Listers,
I'm new to the list and am looking for my ancestor, Louisa JONES. I've just received her marriage cert which states that in May 1863, she was resident in Caerwent, although she married in St Woolos, Newport. She married James HAWKER (HAKER, on cert.) His father's name was Thomas.
Her father's name was William. They left for Cardiff soon after this where she had a child, Rhoda in 1865. I have been unable to find her on the 1871 census, so I was hoping someone there would have access to the 1861/
