7. Re: [UK-NE] 1881 again [1]
Hi Freda, Glad to hear about your good results from the 1881 online Census. No, it wasn't a fluke about you getting Pittington! I guess you must have found the City/Town thing to choose from! When you choose which County you want, as in your case, Durham, let it finish loading, then next to it, it comes up with City/Town, and you choose which one you want! It took me a while to cotton on to that, as I never waited till it finished loading properly!! Guess I was just too impatient!! :-) ----- Original
8. [UK-NE] Webster Look-Up [1]
Hello Listers I am still trying to find the birth of Elleanor WEBSTER. According to several census for Sheffield she claimed to be born in Berwick upon Tweed. We believe she was the daughter of an army Sergeant and so was likely christened in a Church used by the military. her age was given as 45 in 1841 census and 60 in the 1851 census - as she was married in 1807 I would think that the 1851 census was more likely true!! Therefore I think her birth would have been around 1790. Any help with this woul
9. [UK-NE] Steve's decision to quit list [1]
Steve decides to quit the list because of all of the messages created by people giving their surnames to Sarah. We then have even more messages on the list saying don't go Steve. Surely these messages of support were personal to Steve and should have been sent to him and not the list? Susan
10. [UK-NE] Re: Empire Day [1]
Raised in Armley, Leeds, I remember dressing up and marching behind flags through the local streets singing "Empire Day is the 24th of May". We moved in 1952 and it didn't happen in Bramley on the new Council estate. When the Queen was crowned, our neighbour invited most of the street to watch on their TV - the first I had seen. How things have changed since then... Terry Perth, Western Australia

Hi Everyone, I've come across this URL - its a hospital records database. You can find out which hospital records are available and which Record Office they are held at. http://hospitalrecords.pro.gov.uk/ Useful for people who know that some of their ancestors were in hospital. I've got an ancestor who was in hospital on the 1881 Census. Now I know which Record Office may hold info about her! Jan B

16. [UK-NE] Obtaining copy of military record [1]
Is it possible to get a copy of a military record? I have what I presume is the individual's file number (WO 97/1262/49) from the PROCAT site. Ordering online would be my first option, but anything would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Pat Cornacchione Cleveland, Ohio USA

20. Re: [UK-NE] Empire Day [1]
We were allowed to wear girl guide uniform instead of school uniform on Empire day. Red, white & blue hair ribbons as well for our plaits instead of brown. Not sure when it ended but I left school in 1952. Do not remember a half day holiday. Kath > My question is - Approx what year it was when people stopped celebrating Empire day like that in England? > My guess would be sometime in the early 1940's??
21. Re: [UK-NE] WILLIAMS- Middlesbrough [1]
Hi Sue, There were 393 WILLIAMS in M'Bro at 1891C. There is a family at 111 Lower East St in 1891 but no Charles. The Thos is age 6. I can send you a scan if you like. Was Thomas actually born in M'Bro? How old is Charles at death? If you give me some idea when Charles was born I may be able to pick him up in the 1891. 23. FW: [UK-NE] Steve [1]
Tracey, Firstly, Sarah didn't upset people as such - just jumped in with both feet. If I'd know what Sarah's intentions were, then I could have possibly worked with her and posted these surnames on our web site for the benefit of others. As stated in my last posting, I've been working on a new look web site for some time now (at great expense to myself). I'm not looking for thanks or compliments, I just try and make this mailing list the best I can for its members. Secondly, people post surnames to this l

25. [UK-NE] How to unsubscribe UK-NE-D [1]
Louise, perhaps you should try sending an unsubscribe notice to the unsubscribe address, which is uk-northeast-D-request@rootsweb.com . Put unsubscribe in the subject and put unsubscribe in the body of the message. I don't think the computer understands your message. Now you may tell me it is none of my business, but I think it is because you sent it to me, and I am one of about 1,000 people all over the world you offended with your language, and we love our List. I don't want to see anything like it again
