Christopher STEPHENSON born 1692 (maybe) died Aug. 1767 Heysham Lancs. The
first record I have found for Christopher STEPHENSON (5th G Grandfather) is
his marriage in Heysham Lancs. to Mary EDMONDSON. A contact thinks that my
Christopher is a brother of James, John and William sons of Anthony
STEPHENSON and Elizabeth BENSON. If anyone is searching this family I would
love to hear from you.

Hi When you trace this family further back, if they were then in Tunstall,

But I think it only goes up to about 1800. I'm just about to go away for 3

Hi Listers,
Yes, it's us again!
We would be grateful if we could attract the attention of all of you
who have accumulated photocopies of pages of the various censuses over
the years.
Among the entries you are probably not interested in may well be
details of pubs, inns, taverns, etc., and we would appeal to those of
you who have such entries to send them in to us, even if your own

Hello Listers,
I've been subscribed for quite awhile now, but have never posted.
I'd say it's high time! I'll try and make this not be too long...
-I have a Mary Alice BARROW born on 26 Nov 1888, in the village of
Greenodd, parish of Egton-cum-Newland.
There is no father listed, believe she was born out-of-wedlock, and
later came to be known as the daughter of Alfred NEWSHAM (see the
marriage of Edith BARROW, below).
Her mother was Edith Margaret Sherock (spelling?) BARROW, born abt.
1869.
Would anyone know which newspapers were around during the war. I'd like to
write to any paper published in Barrow in Furness during this time in hopes
they might have published information about enlistments, furloughs, wounded etc.
If possible, I'd like the address too.
Thank you,
Ann

Good idea Carol. I signed on quite early and I've been thinking of
reposting. I am interested in Christopher Trougheire, christened April 26,
1807 in Ulverston to Christopher and Ann Croasdell. I am trying to link him
to a Christopher Trougheire, a shoemaker, who had a daughter, Jane, born
(not necessarily christened) in the Isle of Man around 1834 who subsequently
married in Penwortham, near Preston in 1866.

Hello Carole,
You didn't give the surname of your 3xgreat grandfather. I will be looking at the church
records for that area tomorrow. If you can let me know by then I may be able to help.

Now the ofsted inspection is finally over. I can get down to some serious research again. I am trying to find out about a lady called Elizabeth Cartmell.
She was housekeeper to a gentleman called William Bewsher. The lived at Quay street. I have found reference to them on the 1881 Census. Elizabeth had a lot of children but does not seemed to have married. I think William Bewhser was their father.
If anyone could please help me I would be very grateful.

I am searching for information on my great-grandfather Cornelius FOY who was
born in Dalton in Furness according to the 1881 census. He was listed as
being 20 years of age a private in the Army and stationed in Grand Shaft
Barracks. No other family affiliation was given; however, the same census
lists a Catherine FOY living in Greenhaume with her father a Mr. Gribben.
Catherine had several children from 8 to 2 so I doubt that Cornelius could
have been her husband, although one child was named Cornel

Jane's Furness connection is what leads me to send the query to this list as

Richard and Jane were married 19 May 1842 at St. Oswald's, Grasmere and
spent their married life in Ambleside where they lived at Mill Cottage

Hi Carole and list
Can't help you directly, but the DICKINSONs of Beetham go back some way, at least to 1608. I'm afraid I haven't traced them further forward than 1783, when Jane d of Robert and Jane (CORT) DICKINSON married my ggggrandfather John DOCKRAY in Burton-in-Kendal.
Do you know your Richard's father or siblings?
