It's important to familiarize yourself with what's available - but it's even more important to see what is contained in various records :-) Edna has a good question but it's always better to check for yourself. Bill Martin has a write up on the Burleigh papers which contains details of the time period of these records, what they consist of, and a list of s

Can anyone comment on .....a set of LDS films (also available at the AO)? The title of the set is "Crown Land Records Card Index, 1786?-1868. 7. Re: [UPP-CAN] Colonel BURDWELL, 1820, Elgin Co. [1]
Most likely this name should be Mahlon Burwell. He was a well known personage of his day. Should be written up in The Dictionary of Canadian Biography - or at least some footnotes for him should exist. Cheers! J. Mary - I think you will find that Camden Township, Addington County, was in the MIDLAND District (Addington was a County within the District), and here is what GLOBAL has to say about a Midland District Marriage Register - "BOOK - MIDLAND DISTRICT MARRIAGE REGISTER To date no one has been able to locate all of the Midland District Marriage Register. 9. [UPP-CAN] Talbot settlement [1]
Hello! Is there a way to find out HOW people were chosen by Colonel Thomas Talbot to "live on his land"? Evidently, that was the case with my ancestor Barney SERVICE. I have the following excerpt from land papers...."Barney SERVICE was contacted in 1827 by Col. Talbot to settle 100 acres of land" and goes on to say that Barney had paid the settlement fees and cultivated some of the land. It was dated in 1848, I believe. Barney was not Scotch or Irish (rumors that Talbot settled his land with Scots, Irishme
10. [UPP-CAN] Re: REED/REID in Hastings Co. [1]
I would like to find the parents of Sarah Reed/Reid (b. 1819) who married William Darling in about 1843. The family lived in Huntingdon Township. The information I have says Sarah was born in Ireland. William was also born in Ireland and settled in Hastings Co. in 1834, so I assume they married there. Their children were Robert, Melissa, David, George, William, Susan, Emily and Sarah. Dolly

Bonnie, The original was published 1904 by Rolph & Clark Limited, Toronto. It was reprinted in 1983 by Mika Publishing Company of Belleville (now defunct). The 1983 reprint has a brief introduction by William F Morley of Queens University explaining the genesis and scope of the work. Is this what you were looking for? 14. [UPP-CAN] Possible Answer re: lack of marriage registration of John White & Priscilla Cobean in 1863 [1]
Greetings from Toronto: I have just checked with a friend who maintains a private index of marriages from Southern Ontario, and he informs me that this couple were most likely married by the Reverend Alexander Lewis who served the Mono East Presbyterian Congregation at the time of this marriage. The reasons he makes this assumption is due to the fact that Rev. Lewis did, as required by law, make annual returns to the Clerk of Peace so that they could be copied in to the County Marriage Register. Reverend

16. [UPP-CAN] Burleigh Papers [1]
I was wondering if anyone has been able to obtain copies of files by mail from the Burleigh Papers at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. I ask because their business hours are the same as my work hours and so I would not be able to go their. I am interested because they contain the surname 'Veley' and I would very much like to know what info they have. 17. [UPP-CAN] Tris Rivieres [1]
My Grandfather, Peter Shephard Campbell, bn 1829, gave his birthplace as "Upper Canada" on his pension application and as "Trois Rivieres" other places. As I understand that Upper Canada was Ontario at that time and Trois Rivieres was in Quebec, I cannot reconcile these places. Is there something I'm missing? Jolayne

Maybe it`s a different couple. It says George Lewis and Jantia Ann Hunter, both of Sophiasburgh, 11 Dec 1837. Witnessed by Henry Hart, Mary Ann Hart. You have George Lewis and Tantia Hunter in Picton 11December 1837.

I want to say thank you to all of the reply's that I received regarding my post for Marriage of Margaret McAndrew and Henry Williams. I have looked into Canadian History a bit, during my research, but now I have a lot to learn. Thank you for all of the reference materials they will be helpful in my research. Regards...............
