2. [UPP-CAN] US Migration to Upper Canada [1]
The following quote from Samuel Farmer's book, "On the Shores of Scugog" regarding early settlement of the Scugog/Durham area is of interest to me: "A third group travelled east from Toronto to Oshawa, and then north. They settled the Whitbys, Reach and Scugog, and included English, Irish, Scotch and some Americans" (pg. 201)... and on page 203: "Still farther to the west, John Sykes, Chas. Mitchell, and George PORTEOUS were settled." I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the Americans that wo
3. Re: [UPP-CAN] Migration to Canada after the Revolution [1]
I am also interested in settlers from this area. It appears that some of these families moved back and forth across the river dividing Sussex County New Jersey and Northampton County Pennsylvania. During the Am. Rev. several of my ancestors fought for the New Jersey Volunteers but in fact lived in Northampton Co. PA. Eventually these families migrated to Wentworth co.....names such as Long, Morden (who came from New Jersey originally), Rymal, etc. The families from this area intermarried and seemed to st
4. [UPP-CAN] FROM LISTOWNER [1]
Hello fellow Upper Canada researchers I'd appreciate it if the topic of ALT keys could be dropped from the list now. A URL has been given and that is all that is needed for those interested in this topic. I didn't step in right away, hoping it would die a natural death. However, the topic has gone on far too long and has nothing to do with genealogy or history of Upper Canada pre 1867. A word of caution is also in order re copying and reposting pages from webpages -- DON'T! That is a violation of

7. Northumberland County Marriage Register 1858 - 1869 [1]
If anyone happens to have a copy of the above-mentioned book, I'd appreciate it very much to know if there is a reference in it to a marriage of Silvester Isaac (b.1843 Haldimand township), most likely having taken place in Haldimand or Percy township. Peter Smith

10. [UPP-CAN] Petworth Emmigration, PULLEN, PHILLIPS & more [1]
Two Richard PULLENS came to Canada with Lord Egremonts emmigration scheme in the 1830's. Mine appears to be the one who didn't write home to the family but he did arrive with his daughter Mary Ann PULLEN who went on to marry William PHILLIPS Jr. of Merston SSX. They settled & farmed in Lambton Co. William PHILLIPS Jr. had also come over on one of the Petworth vessels (he did write home) and later his dad William PHILLIPS Sr. joined him. (possibly married to an Ellen?) I know a book is being published on
11. [UPP-CAN] Settlers before 1837 in Simcoe County [1]
Hi all; I've added another new page to my site, this one a list of the settlers in the various towns and townships of Simcoe county from the years before 1837. It is a fairly long list and has lot and concession numbers for most. I will be adding further pages for Simcoe County as time permits. These will be from the book The History of Simcoe County by Andrew F. Hunter, pub. in 1909. A while ago I added a copy of a second book entitled An Emigrants Guide to the Canadas, this one published in I

14. [UPP-CAN] Marriage Research in Gananoque [1]
Dear Listers, I'd appreciate some help in researching marriage dates in Gananoque. Specifically, I'm looking for a marriage between Luther Elliott, b.1792/3 and Mary (Margarit) Jackson, daughter of Henry Jackson, U.E.. Their first child born 1830, so I'm guessing the marriage was 1828-29? Family records indicate they were "married at Gananoque". Can someone help me to begin my search? Thanks! Hi Kathy, In 'Places in Ontario, Part I, A-E' - there are two locations for Athol, which are located also in the Ontario Locator, but in the Places in Ontario it gives a bit more information. 19. [UPP-CAN] WADE BLACKSTONE [1]
Is there an index for 1861 or the 1851 Ontario, Canada census on line? My GGGgrandfather John Wade and spouse Deborah Blackstone according to family myth left Toronto around 1871. I have found 13 John Wades in the 1871 Census, 2 in Toronto. I have also found 2 Blackstone families in this area. Supposedly they left Toronto with five children. The firstborn Lizzie was born in 1858, then Matilda, James, Charles Albert, Jemima and John W was born in in 1868, supposedly in Toronto. I leave for the FHC in SLC

This is the perfect example of the reason why replies should *all* be going to the list. I subscribe in order to find the answers to queries that may at some time or another be of interest to me, but I am no longer reading such responses because of the way the list is now set up. Off-list responses are utterly useless to anyone other than the person to whom they were sent. In fact, they may as well never be written for all the use they'll ever be to anyone else. I can see that John feels cheated, and he
