Hi Lynn
Unfortunately the 1851 census for Toronto did not survive.
There was a Directory of Toronto published in 1850 by Rowsell and it was
republished by the OGS Toronto Branch in 1993 under the title "Inhabitants of
Toronto--1850".
There is a Henry Williams, a labourer residing at 55 George Street , and H B
Williams, an undertaker, cabinet maker & upholsterer, at 140 Yonge Street. No
ages or birthplaces are given.
A directory of that era, even one titled "Inhabitants of Toronto", did not

I believe your references to Books A & E are to copybooks of deeds. The copybooks that were microfilmed are available at the AO and through the FHL. For Ancaster they probably go back to the late 1790s. While most such records--not all--were microfilmed in the 1950s or so, several Ancaster copybooks are missing from about 1829 to 1846. I hope yours were microfilmed!
Apparently Hamilton was one of the Registry Offices which began to destroy original old records before APOLROD could rescue them and

The website of the Petworth Emigration (southeast England to Upper Canada in the 1830s) has a new look. In the past we have added some indexes to selected groups of emigrants --- the birth surnames of women who were married before they emigrated; known burial places in Ontario for Petworth people; and a list of post-1837 emigrants. Now, we have added the "master" list of surnames of all Petworth emigrants 1832-1837.
Our four indexes are located at the left of the main page. Each index has explanatory notes
Is there anyone who can tell me when Joseph P. Edwards received his land grants?
He received all N 1/2 of Lot 34, Con. 10, Augusta Twp. Grenville County, and NE 1/4 of Lot 35, Con. 10, Augusta Twp. In 1861 he purchased all 1/10 acre, part lot 34, Con 10, Augusta Twp. from the Trustees of school section #20.
He emigrated to Canada @1818, married in Wolford Twp. Grenville County in 1830, was living at the above address in 1845.
Any help greatly appreciated

If you go to the Old Saltfleet Records site shown below and down the list to
(think it says) some old pictures, click that then look at "old house". All
the pictures in that series are of the same property. The silo is old but not
the original with that house. You can also see the footings of other
structures. Field stones were plentiful in the southern area and when collected out
of the fields, being prepared to grow in, made excellent foundations for the
buildings. Burlington and Grimsby

Hello list members; Just checking in to see if any new people have joined this great list. I want to again say that I am still looking for information, any at all, that will help me with my family name of McManemy and it's many variants! My GG grandfather John came from Ireland before 1837 as a young man, maybe 18 or so and married a Hannah Buchanan in Essex Co. Ontario, in Gosfield to be exact and lived there in Gosfield and Colchester marrying twice and raising several children. One of his sons Robert
My FAWCETT ancestors settled in Ontario (or Queens Bush) in the 1820s. What

Speaking of "old" places there is an old log house in Elora still inhabited
near the Mill.I believe it is one street(maybe Church Street) up from the
mill on the hill.I believe also it was one of the first homes built in
Elora. My memory tells me Charles Allan built it and remained in the Allan
family until about 1947.To me it should be preserved an an historical site.
I have pictures of it.

Dear Marlene,
ain't genealogy interesting?
I am sorry, but I have no idea who this man was, I wondered
if he was a Hessian soldier of the American Revolution,
but could not find him in any military records.
Perhaps Barbaranne Wright has an answer?

I have found my gg grandmother listed under all of the names listed below. The highlighted name came from the 1871 census, the other variations came from her death record, and the marriage of some of her children.. She had two daughters Ellen and Amanda who I haven't been able to trace, but they probably married in Canada. Her married name is Nugent. I am looking for her maiden name.
