John, In researching Matern in La., suggest you also research Matherne which is a commone name in south La. Can't tell from your message whether you are familiar with La. or whether you are a novice or accomplished researcher. If novice would suggest obvious of Nathchitoches and St. John the Baptish Parish Gen Web sites. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russel Madere" To: Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 9:35 AM Subject: [US-IMMI] Looking for

7. [US-IMMI] Looking for William Penn b:abt. 1780 England/ family came to Maryland [1]
There are many excellent resources for Maryland and Virginia research for the time that you are interested. You need to spend some time in a good genealogy library and you will find the answer. Since you live in Utah, you have the super-library in SLC. If you've never been there, you should give it a try. There are many voluteers there who will help you find the resources you need although they will not help you with your specific family, per se. I am trying to track my earliest known Brotherton ancestor. Family tradition has it that JOHN BROTHERTON, was born in Donegal, Ireland around 1737. By 1759, he had made his way to the United States. He died sometime during 1807 in North Carolina. His son, WILLIAM BROTHERTON, was born September 18, 1759 in Pennsylvania. Any help is appreciated! Lisa Brotherton

I am still looking for my ggg-grandfather who was suppose to have been from England. He was born about 1780 but we don't know when the family came to Maryland. We don't know if he came with his parents and siblings and grew up in Maryland or if he came as an adult. We do know that he had two sons who were born in Maryland and married in Virginia. Their names were John Penn b: May 1800, and William Penn born about 1806 - 1808. They lived in Loudoun Virginia and had their first children there and t

13. RE: [US-IMMI] Burke Surname [1]
I cannot say with certainty that your Burke family is related, but there are Burkes in Catawba County and Lincoln County NC (The county was Lincoln before Catawba came into being.). In the mid 1800s, one or more units of this family went south to GA and another (or some of the same ones that went to GA) went to MO. Have you checked the 1820 Census records for Screven County? He had 7 children who apparently returned to St. John Parish after his death. Can anyone point me to a resource to document his arrival in Louisiana? My family has been unable to trace the
