I am looking for information on the ship SS President Grant, which was later renamed the USS Republic (AP-33).
It was built by Harland and Wolff of Ireland for the German Navy or a private German company. I am trying to track down the German owner and its original name.
The American government seized the ship on 6 April 1917, probably in New York harbor or in New Jersey.
It was used by the U.S. Navy from 2 August 1917 to October 1919, primarily to transport troops and supplies.

I've just joined this list hoping someone may be able to help with
details of shipping out of San Francisco in 1886.

Are there any records available in the US about departures which might
give any more detail?

Hello,
I am a new lister searching for information in regard to my father.
On the Ellis Island site I found what I think is him. He was rescued from a shipwreck in 1923. the ship he and the rest of his crew were on was listed as the STORAKER OR STORAKOR.The ship WYNCOTE picked them up and brought them into New York.
I have not been able to find any reference to either ship. I wanted to know where they sailed from and where they were going.
The 2 ships are just not "out there". or possibly I just do not k

USA did not keep outbound passenger lists. However, some do
survive. They are few and far between but check the new
project for these at

Would anyone know where a birth certificate or details could be found for the following - Eileen BELL aged 3 weeks on arrival in New York on the Baltic on Jan 20 1913, born at sea Bay of Biscay. The family, John & Esther BELL, were travelling from New Zealand to New York so I am assuming that the baby was born between New Zealand and either Liverpool or Queenstown on another ship as the Baltic left Liverpool on Jan 9th and Queenstown on Jan 10th to travel to New York so the age of 3 weeks would be outside t

The USA did not keep outbound passenger lists. But the semi-
good news is that there is a project to transcribe outbound
lists (the few found) at

Just click on Outbound Passenger Lists at the top menu

Hello,
I found an in individual from the COLANERI family that I am researching in an Italian Genealogy database which had her on the SS Cachmire 1886 into NY. However, the other passenger lists that I have found online don't list her. The information makes sense so I am sure it is the right woman.
Was wondering whether anyone can confirm this passenger or tell me whether any other COLANERI family members were with her.
Thanks so much!
Shelley

Hello,
I just recently received information that my gggrandfather, Henriech Pvhler, came to America on the ship "Time". It arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 4th, 1848. Traveling with him was his wife to be Maria Tiemann. I am looking for a picture and or information on this ship. It supposedly departed from Nassau, Bahamas, and I would like to

I have an ancestor who arrived in US from England in 1852 that is not
listed as a passenger. This was probably correct since he and his wife
snuck on the ship until it was too far out to turn around. Instead of
searching lists by name (which I have done) I would like to find out the
names of the ships that left Eng for US Feb 11 1852 (the day he deserted
the military) and March 30 1852. I would like to look at the manifests
to see if he is listed in some way. Any suggestions?
