Kim:
Do you have a time line or names? Also, if your ancestors happened to come because they were converted to Mormonism, I have a list of immigrants in the 1800s. Let me know.

Since Steve and other free sites charge NOTHING for their
data (or search engines) I am unclear what on earth you
think you might have been charged for.
And why you have put quotation marks around the word free
unless it is to imply that it isn't free. ???

For that year, all ports of entry except NY are indexed and
on microfilm. You're in luck :-)
For NY arrivals you are looking at the Castle Garden era -
so you might want to try online using Steve Morse

Subject: John Full, Ancestor
Hello,
I am looking for information regarding my ancestors John Full,
Marina (Morena) Full, and Marina Western Full. I have Marina Western
Full christened in 1829 in Ashburton, England and John and Marinas'
second child born in Salem Massachusetts, USA in 1831. John Full may
also have been employed on a ship in the 1830s.
Thank You
Why would anyone think that everything on the internet should be free?
Thanks to Steve's site we can at least find out IF the information we want
is available. My suggestion to anyone with a gripe about paying for these
sites is to hire a professional genealogist and see what it costs to search
for ONE ancestor. Thanks to Ancestry we can find hundreds. It is well
worth the money to me.

"Go figure."?? ....
1. I never said "paying" for info was bad / not good ... my point was why
have a site that gives / lists "FREE" results that don't supply ALL the
data, and that also lists "PAY FOR" sites that ( hopefully ) do ?
2. I've spent many years researching ( and verifying ) my ancestry ...
much of it before the computer "genealogy" fad ( remember paper and pencil
research ? ) came into the picture, and have spent a small fortune in
postage costs and travel expenses ... in both the

Good morning, Dick,
The main intention of my post was to defend volunteers for their service,
regardless of how much they have been able to or have wanted to donate to others.
It seemed to me that this aspect wasn't being represented here, and myself

Ok, I have a little more info than when I previously posted.

She was born in Novemer, 1865.
She ended up in St. Francis, Clay County Arkansas by 1900 and was married to

That's all I know right now. Thank you for any advice, hints, suggestions

Carlene,
I'm in total agreement with you. Hobbies cost money. And those websites
that offer us free information usually can do so because of the time and kindness
of wonderful volunteers. Hiring a professional genealogist is very
expensive, so for three years now I have paid for a full membership to ancestry. What
I have to show for it consists of 4900 individuals logged into my (free)

existed. Same goes for a gal
I, too, had the same experience Dick. I was referred to Steve Morse's (free) site, and I found nothing in the "free" place, and wasn't about to pay for something that produced nothing. I am also a member of Ancestry and have used their site inside and out looking for McDermott census records. I copied one census years ago from an LDS History center, so I KNOW the census exists with the ancestor's name, but Ancestry could not produce these records for me online. I went page by page and the name wasn't th
Do you have any suggestions for finding the records of an ancestor who
arrived around the turn of the 18th century from Scotland or Ireland (Ulster
Scots)? My ancestor James Douglas immigrated around then. He married
Margaret Elliot in York, Maine. I mention that because he may have sailed
with Elliots. Other than that, I have no other information - no birthdate,
such a common name and no spouse. Like a needle in a haystack. Do you have
any ideas?
Thanks,
Jane

Dick,
Steve is very well known and respected in the genealogical
community
His search engines (One Step) search free and pay to view
online databases. He makes no secret of this, his goal is
to provide a better search for whatever database a
researcher chooses to use
Steve's site is free. He does not charge anyone to use his
One Step Search Engines.
