Hi everyone
I've just started putting an index to names of passengers
on Ships Passenger Lists arriving at Galveston Texas
between 1846 and 1871 online on Rootsweb.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/texas-ships-a.htm is the
start of this huge project.
Thanks to volunteers Glenda Meyer and Laura Freeman for
their help in transcribing these names. This is an ongoing
project, please check back often to see new surnames as
they are added.
Feel free to pass this message on to other researchers and

Hi,
I have been looking at the Rootsweb list of mailing lists, but am not sure to where I should address my query, I hope that you might be able to help please.
I am, and have been trying, for years on and off, to establish what became of a former South Australian ketch that was requisitioned by the Australian Federal Govt, in 1942,
on behalf of the American Army - yes the Army! The ketch was partly owned by my Grandfather prior to requisitioning.
The ketch was the "Harold" and she went on to become the

I am looking for the following family that came over around 1872 from Alsace.
John Kipp age 38 with wife Mary Kipp age 28 with the following children Mary

Hi Tracey:
They arrived in NY on 10 May 1872 on board the ship, "Erin". Together
traveling were:
Jean age 37
Anna age 28
Mario age 8
Caroline age 6
Joseph age 4
Jean age infant
Also on the same manifest page was a Rosalie Kip age 24 and Hubert Kipp
age 1.
Check out the original manifest for free until October 29th:

I found them under NY passenger lists and use Kipp as the surname and
exact matches. Around 27 or so matches came up but just look for th
I had been thinking my grandmother Anna SIEGEL, who was from Heinen, Prussia, came to US in 1885 at age 19. I could be wrong. My uncle (her son) said that she came over with a young friend. I found an Anna SIEGEL, age 17, sailing on the ship Salier from Bremen to NY in August, 1883. This matches most closely. My question now is, how can I check to see whether another young lady about her age would have sailed on the same ship? Any information would be glady received and appreciated.

Peter Engbrecht immigrated from Russia in 1889. He was a German. I am searching for the ship he came on. His wife, Catherine, or Catharina booked passage same year, but later than Peter. Children were, Henry, Richard or Dick, Peter or Petter, Cernel, Johanna. Destination would probably be listed as Kansas. Occupation was farmer. Any help greatly appreciated.

Dear Florence:
Right now you can search the manifests of ships that sailed into NY from
1851-1891 on-line for free (no Visa # required or anything like that).
But it is only free until October 29th. Here is the link and you can
look up your ancestor and search the entire manifest.

On my ancestor's Naturalization it says he arrived in the port of
Baltimore in January of 1871. I was recently at the National Archives
and had a chance to search the film that is the index for the arrivals
that include 1871. But, he was not in the index. I am wondering if there
are any other sources/indexes etc. to check. His name was
Vincent/Vincenz Schlosser who was from Austria/Germany border area.
Thank you for any advice..
My ancestor Johann (John) Henninger and family came over from Germany on the
Bark Alfred in July 1851. Does anyone have any idea where to search for a
picture of the Bark Alfred? Is there any difference between Bark and Barque, or
is it just a different spelling of the same type of ship?
Thanks for any help.
Patricia
I am new to the list and am hoping that someone may be able to help me
Walter HAMILTON along with his brothers and sisters emigrated from Scotland to America about 1892. Walter was born in 1864 in Roxburgh. He died in Maple Hill, Topeka, Kansas in 1940. Walter had worked for Lord Lothian on his estate in Scotland.
Would love to find exact date, ship etc that the family travelled on.
Susan, just a hint but you may want to check all variations of the
spelling. Sound it out to yourself and imagine what it might have been
spelled like.

Trying to find the ship that the below family came across on, from Ireland.
All born in Ireland
Henry Matthews born 1845 (brother of RWM)
Robert W Matthews born 1842
Rebecca Matthews born 1847 (wife of R.W.M)
Robert James Matthews born 1874 (son)
Henry got citizenship in 1877
The rest of the family got citizenship in 1876
They could have sailed from any port in Ireland or from Liverpool. They came from County Laois.
In the 1880 US census they are all living in Kaufman, Texas.
Any help would be appreciated

My ancestor accroding to the 1900 census, arrived in United States in
1874 and had siblings who arrived shortly before and after his arrival.
Are there any indexes of surnames for arrivals or soundexes? I am hoping
to find the ship he came on.
I have checked the Naturalizations of these family members but none of
the papers tell the ships name, only the month and year of arrival.
Thank you for any information or suggestions ...
Don't forget to check the index for the year before and the year after
his supposed entry.
