Hello.
Is there someone on the list who would be willing to get a copy for me
of a marriage bond from the 1790s in Amherst Co.? I have the names and
date of the marriage, but need a copy of the bond. I am willing to pay
for research time and copy cost, but am not able to travel to Amherst
myself to do this.
Please respond to me privately.
Thanks.

Merry Christmas List:
One more request before signing off for the holidays.
Still searching for descendants of Samuel E. Martin & Nancy Hartless?
He was in a deed dated 1845 from some other Martins, but no clue as to
who they were.
They were in a couple of census for the county together. 1850 & 1860,
before moving on to Rockbrige.
Anyone with any clues? Making a Christmas wish for some help.
Thanks,
Phyllis

My greatgrandfather, Dr. Alexander Frederick Wills married Virginia Norvell
in 1858. For many years he was the physician at the Amherst County Poorhouse.
He served in the Confederate Army as assistant surgeon of the 18th Virginia
Calvalry. His daughter Sallie Barney Wills is my grandmother. Perhaps there
is a connection with your family.
Is anyone researching the following men in the 1700s? If so, please contact
me to share information. Thanks:
- James MARTIN, of the Parish of St. Ann's, Albermarle Co., who bought
land in Amherst Co., VA, from William PHELPS on 5 Nov. 1770.
- John THURMOND who was in a 14 month legal battle with William PHELPS in
Amherst Co. from 1767-1768.
- William HANSBROUGH who was living in Amherst Co. in 1776.
- Richard McCARY who was living in Amherst Co. in 1776.
Mary,
I am told that my grandfather once kept a store at the Forks of Buffalo but
I don't know anything more than that except that he was also the postmaster
there. His name was Edward Christian Wilmer, and he was also a minister and,
at one time, a justice of the peace for the Sandiges area.
If you run across anything referring to him, please give me a holler!
