Hello all,
In response to Glen's posting, I am sending the info I have on the
descendants of Robert Penick and Caroline M. Harvey. I am not including
all known descendants; I am restricting it to those generations that
have already been published elsewhere. Please feel free to contact me
off-list for any additional generations of descendants that I might
have.
I have already incorporated the information that Glen sent yesterday,
but have not yet had an opportunity to incorporate the info he sent this

they are my ggg-grandparents

I did not see the query on the HARVEY line. I have about 50-100 of them in
my database. The earliest being

of Charlotte County, Virginia, but no definite proof exists. Thomas HARVEY
died in Charlotte County, Virginia circa 1812. Family tradition [which can
rarely be trusted] says that his wife was Andromache BARKSDALE "Macca",
possibly the daughter of Collier B. BARKSDALE and Sarah RANDOLPH. No proof

You didn't see the original query because I sent it only to Glen. As
the list administrator for the VAAPPOMA list, I saw his subscription
request come in. Seeing the name Harvey, I took the opportunity to send
him the HARVEY names in my file and ask for any information he might
have had on them.
I asked him to reply to the list, which is exactly what he did.
I'm so glad I asked, and so glad that he responded, because he has given
me three additional generations back on my HARVEY line, as well as
Pauline,
Appomattox Courthouse is CURRENTLY in Appomattox County, not too far
from the Appomattox National Historic Park (where the McLean house is
located and where Lee surrendered to Grant).
However, Appomattox County wasn't created until 1845. So...everything
that is currently in Appomattox County was previously in other
counties. County boundaries seem to have changed a lot in late 1700's
and early to mid 1800's. What you need to do is find a map that shows
the county boundaries for Virginia for 17
Hello all,
Here is one more group of descendants which ties in to the Harvey lines
discussed previously. The Elvira L. 'Ella' Woodson who married Thomas
Wilson Harvey, Jr., was the sister of my ancestor Mary 'Mollie' Woodson;
both were daughters of Drury Woodson and Louisa Hendrick. I have more
info on some descendant lines that I have left out of this message in
order to conserve space. Just ask if any of these lines interests you.

I've been very interested in the Harvey notes that appeared on this list
recently. I am trying to determine which Thomas Harvey was the father of
Sarah Harvey who married Charles Doss in Franklin Co. Va. 27 Jan. 1793.
The Doss couple may have moved to Stokes Co. No. Car. where they seem to be
listed in the 1810 census, with many neighbors named Harvey. Can anyone
connect the Buckingham/Appomattox Harvey's to those in Stokes Co. No. Car.?
Was there a Thomas Harvey living in Amherst Co. ca. 1790s?

I will need to respond to your post of 4/14 in installments. Here is the

Hello Listers,
One of the problems with a "newbie" is that we don't know what has been said
before. If you will bear with me, an item that is of great help to me is a
V-DOT County map of the county I am delving into. I have received a copy of
the Appomattox County map, and other counties in their district, from V-DOT's
Lynchburg office without charge. For those who are not in the area, you can
order a map of any county in Virginia for 50 cents plus 4.5% tax from their
web site at www.vdot.state.v
Glen,
I have all of these Penick's, and more. You appear to have all the
children of Charles Penick & Elizabeth Fore, and also all the children
of Robert B. Penick & Caroline M. Harvey.
What you don't appear to have are the ancestors of the Charles Penick
who married Elizabeth Fore.
Much of my Penick information comes from the following publication --
Lyman W. Priest, "The Penick Family: Descendants of Edward
Penick/Penix/Pinix of St. Peter's Parish New Kent County, Virginia,"

Hello all,
The following information regarding the descendants of Charles Thomas
Moses shows the connection between Peggy Moses and my own line. Peggy
as you will see is the one who married Thomas Coleman Harvey, Jr.
There is some duplication here with what I sent in the last message.

I have Capt. Thomas Harvey, Sr., my file and several pieces of information
about him. The only child I have for him is Capt. Glover Harvey which, of
course, means nothing. It you wanted to see the will book pages cited you
can obtain copies direct from the Campbell County Clerk's Office for 50 cents
per page plus a SASE from:

A good guess would be two pages per document.

Hello subscribers,
I didn't realize when I sent that last list of Confederate Pension
applications that there were more for Appomattox County. The ones I
found before were only for the year 1888. There are two other lists --
one for 1900, and one for 1902.
If I can fit both 1900 and 1902 here, I'll send them together; if not,
I'll send them separately.
Again, the URL for retrieving these applications is the following:

The last time I saw copies of this book available they were being sold at
the county courthouse. However, if the county courthouse does not have any,
you SHOULD be able to get a copy by contacting the American Legion Post 104
in Appomattox, Virginia. They still have copies I believe, and the book is
really awesome. I am more than happy to answer questions or do lookups for
you from it, if you would be hesitant to purchase it. They keep a copy of
this book at the welcome center in town in Appomattox. I
