Libbie, Thanks for the advice. The problem with unattended backups running overnight is that I don't leave my computer on when I'm done for the evening. I shut it down and turn it off every night. When it is running, then I am using it. My data is off, but the system is very sick. I reformatted the drive again, and this time loaded the original Windows '95 setup; even that is crashing. But it did seem somewhat more stable than Windows '95. Time will tell. As for the bed & breakfast, I did mention i

Hi Mary, Hope you are able to salvage everything. You know, back up programs can all be set to run automatically, in the middle of the night for example. You just have to have one back up disk or tape in storage and the other in the back up drive, and remember to swap them each time your back up routine runs.
