There is a research project being conducted on it. I read about it through
Earthwatch. Check their website for the details--they do have volunteers
that join their projects.

Hello,
I'm looking for Gabriel Smith b. abt. 1789, son of Stephen Smith d. 1818 and
Olive Harrison d. 1829 of Meherrin Parish of Brunswick County, VA.
Gabriel Smith married Mary M. Burke in Brunswick County on October 21, 1810.
He is not listed in the 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 census index records for
Brunswick County.
September 15, 1814 Gabriel and his wife "Polly" sold their tract of land
consisting of 150 acres to Robert Wallace & Joseph Saunders of Brunswick
County. They probably migrated south.
THOMPSON, Joseph possibly born about 1830 in VA somewhere.
Wife was born in MD.
Son; Thomas J. Thompson born April 18, 1867
This is all the information I have on my G-Grandfather
Thomas J. Thompson
Thanks for any and all information in advance.
Tom Thompson in Florida
