My principal Chesterfield Co. family is CARY. I am descended from Thomas
CARY of Chesterfield Co. (will, 1784) through his son Kemp. I would like to
correspond with anyone who has connections to the CARY family, no matter how
peripheral the connection.
I would particularly like to know about any BUTLER family in or around
Chesterfield Co. in the 1790 to 1792 time frame, as per these Chesterfield
Co. marriages:
Rebecca BUTLER and Kemp CARY, 27 April 1790
Jesse BUTLER and Margaret GOODE, 20 Oct

As a matter of fact, I do. Most of the information I have on them is on my

I have researched the Cox name in Henrico/Chesterfield Co. and knew
that I had seen the name, Perrin Giles. Then, as I read through your
list, I remembered why--he sold land to Richard Cox. You probably
know that part of the area known as Henrico Co. later became
Chesterfield Co.--1749 I believe. So the property he sold Richard was
probably the same property he had in Henrico Co. and I am pretty
sure it was south of the James River in the Powhite, Pocoshock,
Midlothian area.

Tracy,
I would much prefer to have the actual information posted onto the
mailing list, you never can tell if what the people have queried might
fit into your own line. And by the way, the Chesterfield pages look
great, keep up the good work.

This seems to make a lot of unnecessary work for the list owner. If
we get a message saying there is a new query on the GenWeb page, the
surname is in the message. How much trouble could it be to take a

Hi all,
As I asked if Martin Martin was a common name, before I got my message
back through e-mail I had discovered two more. So I guess that they
were not that imaginative back then. Just to see if I get lucky,
anybody seen any Robert N. Sanders in their family files, it seems to be
as common as John Smith!

I'd be interested in hearing from others researching these surnames in
Chesterfield county:
FLOURNOY [Josiah's descendants]
BOWLES [Pleasant--What was his wife Pagey's maiden name?]
VADEN [Michael, a Methodist minister]
WOMACK [the Thomas b. 1810 d. 1881--has anyone figured out all those Womacks
with the same names?]
Thanks--Laura Keyes Perry

My stone wall in Chesterfield Co., VA is Ann Farmer. She married John
Crisp on 5 May 1780 Chesterfield Co., VA. That is all I know about her.
I know their marriage documents are around, where could I get a copy of them?
Also her husband's father John Crisp Sr. died in VA 1782, he did have a
will, how would I go about trying to find a copy of his will?
Is anyone out there researching the Farmer family of Chesterfield? I have
seen a book on the Farmer family there but can't connect my Ann.

One suggestion is to do like the Augusta Co. VA list does -- the
owner posts the surnames in the subject line, then reposts the entire
message from the genweb query with a very distinct statement that people
need to contact the person, not the owner of the list. I don't know
if this is an automatic response by his/her computer, or if he does it
himself. I can see the advantage -- mainly for them -- of having the
message seen by those actively researching in a specific county. Frankly,

I really would rather see messages, as that's the only way I know whether
it's something connecting to my families.
I also do a lot of lookups for people on a voluntary basis, and without
seeing the query, can't do that .
That's all, so I guess I would have to say it's annoying to me.
Thanks,
Fannie

I am seeking information on Mary Eliza Holt Cogbill. She was born in
Chesterfield County, Virginia, on 16 Aug !788.
On 27 Mar 1823, she married in Chesterfield County, Virginia, Alexander

She and Alexander moved to Leaksville, North Carolina and then to Stuart,

Finding her ancestors has been a brick wall that I have been trying to

Hello!
It's great to have this Chesterfield Co. list.
I am searching for my husband's gr grandfather's family. According to info
I found at the LDS Family History Center, his gr grandfather, JOHN CLAY HALL
was born in 1813 near Petersburg, Chesterfield Co., VA. We have no info
about his parents and/or siblings.
The 1850 census records show him to have been 37 yrs. old at that time so
that would indicate the b.d. is correct. There were several John HALL's in
the area about that time so trying to pin th
Hi Fannie (and everyone),
Perhaps I should explain. I'm Tracy, the Chesterfield County USGenWeb host,
and administrator for this list. I started this list shortly after having
changed the Chesterfield County pages. As most of you have noticed, the Query
System on the page is not using the GenConnect system. Part of that system
allows the maintainer to email the query notifications to anyone who would
like to get updated any time someone places a query. I thought maybe it would
be a good idea for the e
Hi again everyone!
Thank you all for your input. The reason I originally started placing the
query notifications on this list was an attempt to jump start some discussion
and try to get the "chatter-ball" rolling. As someone else just pointed out,
these lists do take some time to really get going, although I believe the
Chesterfield County list will be more active before we know it.
I really would love to be able to post the entire message to the list, and not
just a notification stating the surnam

Tracy and All,
I like the way it's set up now. Those who post on the Chesterfield Co.
GenWeb query page aren't necessarily subscribed to the discussion list.
This automatic notification lets us know when there is a new query and what
the subject of the query is. We discussion list subscribers don't have
check the query page every day, once a week, or whenever. This is the best
of both worlds!

Well, speaking of getting the ball rolling....
I'm descended from Valentine Cunningham who married Mary LaPrade in
Chesterfield County, VA on February 13, 1779. Mary was the daughter of Andrew
LaPrade and Martha (?). Valentine was the son of James Cunningham Jr. and
Sarah Martin (daughter of Martin Martin and Sarah Hix).
I'm seeking further information on James Cunningham Jr. I know next to
nothing about him. Has anyone been able to sort out the Cunningham's in
Chesterfield/Buckingham Co's? James Jr.
I'm sorry, maybe it's my computer, but all I've received from this list
is a message saying that something was posted, but no post. Is that the
way this list is supposed to be ?
I thought I'd receive queries and answers, like I do on other lists.
Someone please advise me.
Thanks,
Fannie

Tracey,
I would very much like to have you continue posting the queries on this
list. As you intended, it saves me a lot of time.
It is so nice to have this mail list to seek help finding our Chesterfield

Thank you!!!

Hi Laura,
I was searching the name LIVESAY in the Libraray of Virginia on their
webpage last night and found a WOMACK marriage in Prince George County.
Just a hope it may give you a lead on another place to search for the
WOMACK family you are researching.
